Safest way for 300bhp? #631167

I am currently running a 20vt with a decat 2.5inch exhaust, ball bearing T28, K and N induction, profec 2 spec b and G tech one chip.

I am looking to achieve 300bhp at the fly but would like it to be safe as the engine is old (95k) and was wondering what I would need to uprate in terms of clutch, driveshafts and engine/chip.

Also a little worried about the price of such a venture so if anyone is running similar power could they give me a rough guideline as to cost

Thanks for any help

Tom

A FMIC is a must at least, which turbo is that?

What chip would you recommend for a live map? Would I need to uprate the fuel pump and or injectors. The turbo is a hybrid from CR Turbos think it's a GT28

Nearest to you is auto integrale. Otherwise Powerfiat in Essex.

Do you know specifically what turbo it is? No idea what is going to be needed without that info in terms of clutch - can you ask them for a compressor map or what the equivalent turbo would be in the Garrett line up?

Driveshafts will be fine as they are.

You will need a Front mount intercooler (google pro alloy), uprated fuel pump (walbro 255) and voltage mod (see how to section).

I would recommend that you get the engine compression tested before going any further and then pay to get the car mapped on a rolling road rather than relying on a plug and play chip for both power and safety.

You may also want to think about replacing worn suspension bits it needed (e.g. worn wishbones will make the car a pig with that power in second gear) and making sure that the brakes do the job well enough. Roger at powerfiat will be able to give you a full run down - it's definately worth a trip down there to see him for a full inspection of the car etc.

I'll find out a model number for the turbo as soon as I can. Already have bilstein shocks and apexi springs on order and wishbones were replaced 10 months ago.

What chip do you suggest for the mapping at a RR?

I take it the engine internals will be fine as long as my engine is healthy?

Cheers for help Suba

They can use the Gtech1 as a base for the mapping. The company will install a new chip in your ECU.

No need to change any internals.

Is your clutch okay? Any slip? I would recommend a new one if it´s old.

It depends how the car is mapped.

If the tuner uses a 'live' map then the chip in the ecu is replaced with a custom one - so the base chip makes no difference at all IIRC.

An alternative would be to use a unichip (google dastek for info) which manipulates the map the you currently have by intercepting the signals to the ECU and 'fooling it into running differently. If you go down this route then then closer your car's base chip is to perfect then the easier the job of mapping is - this equates to less rolling road time and a better price. With a unichip it is far easier to take out fuel than to put it in, so you want the car running rich prior to mapping. In most cases a GTEC 1 will do this job pretty well as long as the rest of the cars spec is up to the job, e.g fuel pump, voltage to the pump and a good set of injectors + plugs.
