Jimbo

Thanks. For option 2 when you mention FK Konis, do you buy the springs and dampers seperately? Or when you buy the Hi-Sport or Konig-Sport kits, do they come with the Koni adjustables?

Thanks

Dave

The konig sport kit comes with the koni adjustable damper insert built into the front damper unit and you get a pair of koni adjustable rear dampers.
All the FK coilover kits are height adjustable (front and rear) and come complete with springs.
Extra springs and the FK kits can be bought here .

Jimbo, What are you running currently?. I noticed you sold your Bilsteins. Does this mean you are back with the FK silverlines and 100N/mm front springs?

Hey Cosmo fancy seeing you on a suspension thread

Yep Im selling the front Billys but Im keeping the rear dampers on the car.
Those 100Nmm springs have made it much better, I was late for my christmas do the other night so i had to really boot the car and over some pretty bumpy sections of road, the car behaved quite well and didnt start its bounce of death

Sorry Jimbo, I forget, are you using the koni FK's or the non-adjustable ones?

Still not that happy with it to be honest.

Im running the Konigsports with 100N/mm springs. The bouncing has gone but the ride is painfully hard at the front. Bad roads are a pain but its a joy on smooth tarmac.

Jimbo, glad you are getting some reward from the Silverliines anway. I agree with Barbz, I think the FK damper is a better damper than the Koni one for road use albeit you can adjust the Konis.

I'm wondering what the 90N/mm springs are like. I think Barbz is running these.

Lars told me there was no 90N/mm spring just 100N/mm and 120N/mm. He said Barbz was running the 100N/mm.

I had a long chat with Lars about the FK damper, he wasn't 100% but the actual damper unit is made by SACHS so it should be a good damper.

The springs for coilovers can be bought from Demon Tweeks Motorsport or any half decent motorsport shop, they dont have to be FK spring they can be any 2" 1/4" spring and you can buy them in varying lengths and spring rates so fine tuning the suspension is simple.

I might try fitting a slightly stiffer helper spring on mine to give it a more progressive rate.

A link was just what I was looking for. £500 is not bad for a full set of springs and shocks.

Thanks

Dave

OE setup I guess, perhaps with another set of dampers at the most.

There's definetly a 90N/mm spring part no. FK1769.

Interesting idea Jimbo about fitting uprated helpers. Let me know how you get on.

Yep the Konigsports. On full soft the springs overpower the dampers so you need at least half a turn (max is 2) to start with. By then the ride is already pretty harsh and gets bone shaking at anything over 1.5 turns.

Is there anyone in the Bournemouth / Dorset area with a coop fitted with either uprated springs and dampers or Coilovers?

I'm very interested to feel what they're like before investing.

cheers for reply

would u say when half turn they r any harsher then any other lowered suspension?

most of my friends have coilovers and say to get them over the shock and spring option

but its just a mate had R5 GTT with AVO coilovers and that just smashed it way down the road . u just heard banging like metal on metal every time u went over anything other then flat tarmac. iam sure they r not this bad on the coupe but just would like to check

Cheech, I never liked AVO stuff, that metal on metal sound will be the coils on the springs going coilbound (fully compressed) and thats why the ride will be so harsh.
A well set up coilover should give a good ride so long as you get a good spring and damper rate that are well matched.

Jimbo yeah AVO is pants a few mates fitted them to there R5 GTTs and they leaked ,rusted .

wat fks u got ? i was going to get koingsport

mate has koingsport on mk2 golf says they r good , mate has coilovers on esc cos he loves them but his car has been fully setup new beams diffs corner weighted the lot.other mates with them recommend them.

i think its just the thought of my mates R5 GTT giving me the trouble of deciding on coilovers

yup there is 90 N/mm springs ,I now have Barbz 90 n/mm set to try on mine,as he has changed to the 100 n/mm spring,I have 100n/mm ones too so i`ll give them both a try.

Jimbo why have you not used the fk`s on the rear and stayed with the Billy`s.

How does the front feel with the fk`s in comparison to the Billy`s ?

Jimbo

Can you adjust the Konig Sport Damper settings? Some of the threads above seem to indicate not! Or maybe my skim reading has misinterpreted it!!

Yes you can Gillo, the front are adjusted from a knob at the top of the damper and the rears by removing the bottom damper bolt, pushing up on the damper and then turning it.

Those who fitted KW coilovers all seemed to be very happy with them.
