right, next weekend ive got to empty a garage of a load of old scrap and i need a bit of help on the best place to take it. obvously general wasted and scrap will goto the tip, however there is also quite a lot of scrap metal mainly aluminium and dont know where to go to get it weighed in and whether its worth it. the scrap consists of a number of old engine heads and some other crappy engine bits. but overall over 100kilos worth.

reckon its worth it and if so how much??

(btw some of the scrap is old coupe stuff if anyone is worried about the 'coupe related chat')

No idea what its worth but there was a news article doing the rounds about a month ago and scrap metal prices are higher than ever before...I've got a load of lead in my dads garage and a heap of copper piping in my yard I've been meaning to bring to the scarppy. You should at least get enough cash for a half decent night out...lead was around £800 a metric tonne, copper twice that if IIRC

Yes, it is worth weighing the scrap metal in at the moment

There is a scrap metal dealer in Nuneham Courtenay near Oxford called Rogers.

If you take it there they will give you cash for it. You may need to take some ID, and they will record your car registration number though, as to stop people leaving them stolen metal.

not sure how much it will be worth though.

for reference I scrapped four alloy wheels at the local scrap metal place, weighed 36 kilos and I got £40 for it. That was 12 months-ish ago and prices have gone up since then.

I was quite suprised at the number of transit vans waiting to be 'paid' that were full up of scrap metal.

the price of copper and ally has gone up quite alot in past year! i been collecting it at work

all sounds like a good idea then. i've got like 3 sets of alloys, i could probably get more if i put them on ebay but i might aswell weigh them in for a decent price.

doe anyone know the rough srap value of ally and steel currently?

steel is 120 per ton.

I am pretty sure stainless steel is around £1 per kilo, for 306 grade.
