Just to let you guys know we are now able to offer agreed value policies on highly modified vehilces. The agreed value option is free of charge.

The insurers would need a breakdown of modification costings and 5 photographs of the vehilce (digital camera pics are fine). Then a valuation figure will be placed on the vehicle.

If anyone would like a quote please do not hesitate to contact me 01277 263030 or input a quote on our website www.greenlightinsurance.com

This is excellent news Neil, but can I ask why its restricted to modified vehicles? I'm sure owners of mint condition original cars will be similarly worried about the potential of receiving a paltry 'Glasses guide payout' when disaster strikes.

Have just had a Fully Comp quote back and it came in at £557 for my modified 20vT with the following declared mods:

Hybrid Turbo
Peco 2.5" Stainless to Cat
Supersprint Decat Pipe
Pace Chargecooler
EVO 6 FMIC
RamAir Induction Kit
Barbz Straight Induction Mod
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
GTEC2 ECU Chip
RSpec PRV
NGK "7" plugs
Samco Silicone Hoses
Koni Adjustables (inc -35mm springs) all round Suspension
OMP Strut Brace
Grooved and Drilled Discs
Green Stuff Pads
Zender Front Bumper & Sideskirts
Zender Grille

Pretty good considering I pay a shade over £500 at the moment with First Alternative. Especially as this is an Agreed Value quote and parts are covered on a like for like basis.

We are in discussion with the underwriters at the moment about getting agreed value on standard cars as well.

Hopefully they will agree the same set up as for modified cars.

I'll keep you informed as to the outcome.

Also the same underwriter who offer the agreed value can offer trackday cover on UK circuits for £50 per day.

The only track they won't do is Castle Combe, we had more claims from that track than all the other UK circuits put together. So Rather then increase the rates on all tracks to compensate for Combe's bad record we stopped covering it to keep the costs down on the other tracks.

Please note your policy excess doubles for the day.

We had a question raised today by a FCCUK member.

Just to clarify agreed value:

The agreed value payout only applies in the event of a total loss claim. In a repairable incident the modifications would be replaced on a "like for like" basis by the garage repairing the car. So the car would be returned to you with the specification it had prior to the accident.

An Agreed Value policy is designed to pay a realistic market value of the car including modificatiions in the event of a total loss. We cannot value a car based on the purchase price plus the cost of all modifications.

Basically if you owned a 1999 Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo that you purchased for £5000. Then you added 17" alloys, exhaust, filter and lowered suspension costing a total of £1800. The vehilcle would realistically be worth in the region of £5800-£6000 including the modifications.

If you have any questions or if my explanation is not clear please do not hesitate to contact me.

While your here neil,

Where do insurance companies stand on the decat as technically a car is road legal without one, or am I mistaken?

If the car is manufactured after 1993 the vehicle must have a catalytic converter in place or it will fail its MOT. So we cannot insure any vehicle made after 1993 that does not have a Catalyst as it is not road legal.

A number of our customers fit 'Sports Cats' on their cars.

Thanks Neil, like it "Sports Cats"!

The thing that worries me is what happens when you come to claim and you have a 'sports cat' fitted!

If you were to claim for a vehicle and the engineer sent to inspect notcied that the vehicle did not have a catalyst in place the insurer would most likely chuck out your claim.

If a third party was invloved the insurer may also persue recovery of the TP costs from you.

Basically its not a good idea to run without a cat as you invalidate the insurance. If it wasn't for the MOT requirement we would happily cover a car without a catalyst as the car would still be road legal.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Best Regards
Neil

If you could get confirmation from the DVLA/C that it is legal for your car (manufactured after 1993) to run without a catalyst then we can cover the vehicle.

If you would like to receive a price please complete your details on our website www.greenlightinsurance.com (under the club membership question please state FCCUK forum and the details will get passed to me)

Yeah unfortunatley our modified vehicle insurers do not quote LPG vehicles.

We could get a price from another insurer but the rate would be uncompetetive.

The price without LPG would be in the region of £560 fully comp

Could you do me a favour and see how much for it from the other insurer please Neil??

Can i ask if this would cover me on any other car 3rd party or is it not even an option due to my age??,
PS i do have this already and Track day cover with HIC at the mo but on the look out for anywhere that will help me keep some more pennies towards mods but not quite ready to revert back to guzzling £1/litre petrol just yet when i pay tops 40p/Litre at the mo

Just had a quote and was really disappointed with it.
Was quoted £557 fully comp, that £100 more than I pay now and over £150 more than Noel Dazely quoted me.

This is a great idea, as IIRC they are very few insurers who will cover all the mods and replace like for like.

Our minimum premium on Fiat Coupe Turbos is £497 so if anyone has been quoted less than that its not worth contacting us.
