Thought I'd reinstate this thread as a couple of people have been asking about the car. It's been in the garage since early December, protected from the winter here (cold, lots of grit on road, and I don't have winter tyres fitted). Whilst it's in the garage I have a few jobs to attend to: Done: - Fit new fuel filter and cover.
- Fit better the rear window rubber surround trim as there was a small area that wasn't sitting right after the respray .
- Refill holes in B pillars where the filler has shrunk (now using counter sunk holes which should prevent this) and resray them.
- Replace drivers side door stay.
- Get new passenger wing mirror painted. Some low life smashed it whilst the car was in the UK.
To Do: - Recondition front brakes (paint and new seals).
- Fit Eibach rear anti-roll bar.
- Get two small dents removed from roof.
- Get front seats retrimmed. A company made a complete mess of painting them in the UK for me in an attempt to cover up the cracking leather.
- Fit AEM air fuel ratio meter - ordered.
- Fit ECU Monitor - waiting for a company to make up a carbon fibre surround for it.
- Patch up pre-rad for the chargecooler. The intercooler had been rubbing on it and worn a small hole in it.
- Fix oil and water leak coming from front end of engine. Nasty one as it's inside the engine mount somewhere - parts ordered.
- Fit new clutch. Good time to do it as original one has done 70k and don't want to mess around doing it in the summer.
- Fit cat replacement pipe in place of the race cat as no emissions testing here.
Cheers John

I never did get the bonnet repainted to get rid of the teeth marks. I was let down by the local body shop who eventually decided they didn't want to do the work as they didn't think they'd be able to match it up. I suppose it's better to know that than for them to try and fail. I can't seem to include pictures in posting so here are a couple of links Car Sheep Also seen Elk, Wolf and Coyote. No bears yet as they're all sleeping. John

Glad to hear its going well
How has the winter been? Here's been pretty mild all things considered. Got any cougars (mountain lion) at all? We had one spotted in town the other day...

Opps just noticed I wrote Elf not Elk! No Cougars yet. maybe in the summer when I want to go hiking.
Yes it's been pretty mild here really, I think it's trying to break me in gently. I was in Oslo during the worst two weeks. Managing to get out to the Ski resort most Sundays. Weather is lovely here, if it's not snowing the sky is clear with sunshine. Temperature so far has hardly got above zero though. Most of last week it was -13 but it doesn't feel that cold as the air is so dry.
The Jeep is still running well. It's nice not to have to watch out for pot holes. Was useful the other day, it had been chucking it down with snow all day and when I left work you couldn't tell the road from the pavement, how many lanes there were or whether it was one way or two way!
The Jeep is extra lound at the moment as I've fitted a K&N style filter and removed the silencer box off the air intake. Like a proper engine the whole vehicle rocks from side to side when you rev it. Childish I know but it puts a smile on my face.

I love that v8 twist. It's the best thing about them.
It's one of the reason's i'd love an old 67 mustang. Just to see the engine trying to twist the car when you blip the throttle. It may be childish, but that's one of the reasons we love cars. Superb!

The hard way to change the oil filter!

Start of with your regular Coupe engine bay. Then remove the radiator fans, lambda probe, heat shield, offside front wheel, wheel arch trim, auxillary belts, alternator, power steering pump, oil cooler and pipes and the front engine mount and you're left with this. Note I had to refit the oil cooler and some of the emgine mount bolts in order to start the engine up to see where the oil was leaking from. This is the rear view of the engine mount. This is the front view of the engine mount. I was trying to track down an oil and water leak and couldn't see where they were coming from without removing the engine mount. I thought it might have been the oil pump and then when I got water leaking as well I thought it might have been the heat gasket. Whilst I had time during the Winter I wanted to be absolutely sure where it was leaking from. The oil leak was from two places. Where the oil filter joins to the filter holder. The filter is tight but I guess not tight enough or it didn't seal properly. However the main leak is where the two parts of the filter holder join together. They need tighening up as they rotate in relation to one another. I think there is a central bolt that holds the two halfs together. Around the back of the holder is a bolt that also looks like it's leaking a bit. Yes this could probably be tightened up without removing the mount but at least I'll know for sure that I've fixed all the leaks. Oil Leak The water leak seems to be coming from the far left hand end of the water casting. Water leak Looking at the parts CD there is a gasket behind this water pipe so I'll order a new one and hopefully that'll stop the leak. John

Hey Canadian Coupe, How can you have a coupe in canada? I thought that they can not be licensed for legal road use there. I had a buick lesabre auto last time I was there (Aug05). I did see two bears too, in the evening south of the icefied parkway and a mouse, I've been there before and never seen anything. I longed for my coupe the whole time i was in the buick, although if I had it I would of made a mess of the interior with all those dougnuts I kept getting from tim hortens. If I saw your coupe I probably would of tried to stop you.

That must of been hard work, I diddn't think you could, do you know what one would retail at over there? Must be 1 in a million. I did see an alfa 75 in vancouver and one of the old spiders, but that's exciting as it gets, their trucks are flippin quick though.

Have you still got that awesome sounding system.. it rocks!! The pics dont do justice to that outstanding paintwork/colour. Good to see you posting again and will continue to heed your advice..

I can do better than that, next time you're in Calgary give me a call on +1 403 630 0932 and I'll take you for a drive. You choose, either the 4.7 litre V8 4x4 Jeep or the Coupe John

You can't if you want to move there permanently unless the car is over 15 years old, we haven't found a loop hole yet anyway. John is on a work permit I believe, hence the reason reason he can temporarily import it.

Yes I imported it temporarily. The first question I get asked is what the F*** is it? Then second is always what year. I couldn't work out why that was the second question but of course it's because you can't normally import something thats less than 15 years old.

Ye that's what I thought, I think there are some cars you can import such as a Ferrari 360 or if you really want to a volvo S60. I'd love to see a 156GTA out there but again you can't have one. However, you could have a lancia montecarlo or the old GTA. I think they do have the 164 cloverleaf Q4, which is pretty much as quick as a standard 20vt.
