If so it might be an idea to drill a hole into it (that can be plugged of course) so you can drain the thing through from time to time... You'd have to screw something in. I don't fancy your chances of using a rubber bung to hold 2Bar.

If you do go down that route Nigel (that was the option that I looked at) let me know - I talked to a lot of people before deciding who would get the job of mapping and installing it.

My mate is doing a 2litre Ford Zetec build and I am gonna wire in the OMEX 710 for him soon. Cost £667 (ECU) + £85 (Loom) student discount plus any extra sensors. Mapping at PT is £450 + VAT all in as OMEX always setup a proper base map with correction tables, cold start etc as standard so there is not too much adjustment to do. I am seriously considering switching to OMEX 710 if this Bosch gives me any problems. I was put off by standalone systems in the past after I got stung by DTA but now I have much more experience and I would recommend that anyone going to build 400BHP+ I should seriously consider switching ECU's.

Well, I think we can safely say that Leighton is capable of stopping the ECU learning when the car is fitted with bigger injectors and/or uprated FPR I've done about 550 miles today, all on top of about 1,000 miles since the last time the ECU was reset. The AFR gauge still gives 8 LEDS on full boost - eaxctly what it did when Leighton mapped it. So - a hearty recommendation for FC Performance - if he can sort the well-publicised issues with my car, he can do wonders for yours

I guess that's the most important thing really, but it would be nice to see what the numbers are like with a good, safe map.

DTA Pro 8 cannot do the 20VT coupe. I've been there done it got the t-shirt. Unless i have the complete wrong end of the stick (which is doubtful, but nonetheless possible) then Rob40's car does and he has the t-shirt/power graph and 2.4 to prove it. Ross

Actually I thought it blew up twice. The problem was that DTA told us to wire it up as 10 cylinders then divide by two. This means that it wouldn't run sequential fuel and spark???? I thought this is meant to be better than standard not to mention the lack of idle control.
They said wire it up as an Audi which is 90BTDC but the Fiat is 270BTDC so timing will always be wrong. The software can only see a 0 to 170 window. Bringing the spark onto the next cylinder caused all sorts of other problems. Just moves the sensor says DTA despite the fact it was built, yea it’s inside the engine far easier for them to change their software.
The P8 PRO is pants you shouldn’t have to fool an ECU for it to work it clearly was not meant to handle the 5pot Fiat. I think they offered rob40 the new S series I threaten to take them to court with proof and they paid me off.
I will never look at any DTA products ever again.

Your spot on.
It was beacuse it couldnt see the fiat 270BTDC. But the newer one they offered works fine. No problems and fully setup.
Basically i know you had a bad experience, but considering the price and the fact its now fully working, it cant be ruled out as an option.

I wouldn't touch it.
BTW there are a few more costs to fitting an aftermarket ECU than the ECU itself. mapping and loom. You will need a 3 or 3.5 bar MAP sensor, a better temp sensor, will probably want at least an UEGO wideband 02 sensor, may also want an EGT sensor, may need different knock sensors if using the circuit, some need secondary hall sensors for effective traction control, ignition amplifiers if not built in. It all adds up, and there's not much point in converting if you won't put the extra features to good use.
DTA isn't the only ECU that claims to do it but did not. The other thing is the usability even if you can physically get it to run. The ability to configure the software to support different engine configurations does give a good yardstick measure of how good the ECU is. The ECU will have to support the 60-2 flywheel, the offset timing for crank and cam phase, sequential injection (unless willing to run batch) etc. But you will probably want it to be more generic than that so that you can take it with you to your next car once you have made the investment.

Just an update on this to show that Flea's mapping skills have overcome the ECU learning problems. I've now done about 3,000 miles since Leighton first mapped the car. He had a quick tweak of the tickover map a week or so later, but that's it. I haven't reset the ECU once since 20 October (which is pretty good, compared with the two resets per day I was having to do previously) Chuffed

Good stuff Nigel, really pleased to hear it's all working well It seems silly, but being able to press the loud pedal when you want without worry should be a given. As for turning up the boost, well I am currently working on something for the big boosters The initial results on my car are promising...
