Which Discs & Pads? #728290

With the current brilliant exchange rate between the euro and Sterling I'm gonna buy myself new front discs and pads asap.

At the mo I have grooved front discs front and rear (came with the car when I bought it) and the rear pads are a couple of thousand miles old and are Mintex. I think the front pads are Mintex but I can't be certain.

I know the LE had drilled and not grooved discs as standard but I like the grooved look and if I change the front discs to drilled they won't match the grooved to the rear.

Anyway, I digress....

Just looking on Alternative autos and there is a bit of choice with the pads/discs.

Brake Parts
Price
Front Brake Pads(Fiat OE) £29.95
Front Brake Pads £20.95
Front Brake Pads (Pagid Blue) £120.95
Front fast road pads (Brembo) £75.95
Front Brake Pads (Mintex 1155 Racing) £65.95
Front Brake Pads (Mintex 1144) £59.95

Pair of drilled LE Discs £125.95
Front Brake Discs Brembo (each) £40.95
Front Brake Discs (each) £31.95
Front Grooved Brake Discs (Pagid) £189.95
Front Drill/Grooved Brake Discs £149.95

So anybody have a good idea what I should be getting, as I know sweet FA about discs and pads!

I was thinking of getting the Pagid Grooved Discs and the Mintex 1144 pads (which I'm guessing are fast road pads), but how do those pads compare to the Brembo and the others on offer?

I may also consider the drilled & grooved discs but I don't know what brand they are and how they compare to the Pagid etc.

Any help please?

check out the most recent Pagid/DBA group buy

This combo is generally accepted as the best performance setup for 20VTS

I have used the standard Fiat pads and the Mintex when I had an Uno Turbo. The Fiat pads are very good with no fade even on a track day, the Mintex are no better. Tarox grooved discs are very good, though expensive and wear quickly.

An Uno turbo and a Coupe turbo are very different (by about half a tonne) - you need MUCH better brakes for Coupe trackwork.

I killed a set of Mintex 1144s in about five miles, simply by bedding them in - clouds of smoke as I boiled the resin base of the friction material

I was very happy with 3G disc's and Carbotech PantherPlus pads. For the rears I use Brembo Max (grooved) disc's and TarOx pads. Never fading!
Now I'm on Carbotech XP8 pads upfront, should be even better. The sqeek a lot though. \:\)

i switched from standard to DBA 9 groove discs and pagid blue 4-2-2 pads from the group buy, think they were £260 all in, feels much better, calipers were cleaned out as well which probably helps, would def recommend them

The only thing that matters is which brake disc and pad combination does't squeak.

I have standard discs and OMP pads and they don't squeak.
It also stops pretty well. ;\)

Red Dot 20 groove discs and Red Dot fast road pads - great stopping power and doesent squeak (well, most of the time \:D )

Far better than standard/drilled LE discs I ran before

Dragging up an old thread. I've just had the Coop through the MOT. Changed the front discs which were pagid & the pads. The insides were a bit pitted so I'm going to get them skimmed. So fitted a cheap set up of Kinetic discs (ebay) £79 & Red Dot pads that I bought off a member on here very cheaply smile Bottom line is I've just really tested the brakes out, & the cheap set up work very well indeed. Better than the Pagid full stop, considering what I paid for them.

No squealing at all & I'm very happy indeed.

Just to add these discs are zinc coated so in theory will not rust & look the part behind the wheels. I will keep an eye on this & if anyone is interested, I'll report back, that is if anyone is interested... laugh

Has anybody tried Ferodo DS3000 PLUS 03?

I don't know if they are available to suit the standard calipers, but they are a demon pad.
