Nice one fella, sounds rather evil, awesome gauges, where ya get those??? Just google for Defi BF gauges, they ain't cheap though, about £120 a gauge, plus you need the controller for it, which is another £60 on top. I ordered them through a company in Japan. Nice one Alexis! When can I come over and see it? Prob wont be able to see it for a while, this weekend will the last time i get to work on it, then on holiday to Dubai and Thailand on the 9th of Jan, back on the 25th, then hopefully will be trailered away by sedicirich to get the rest of the things done to it Does the boost gauge only go up to 2 bar It does, but i won't be using 2 bar, i'm not that brave / stupid What if you got 399BHP would it have been worth it? No

if it came out on 399 just adjust the boost a lil bit!! that will sort the problem!! lol
horrible to say but that would be a mighty kick in the nuts if it rolled out 399bhp!!

Nope, I can see it having around 420-435bhp and a load of torque.

Can we open a book on how much it makes on the rollers? I'll start....... 58.9 BHP (Flywheel)

1.4 to 1.6bar. More work would be required to run 2 bar on the 16v engine

Fair enough Whats the reason for this Beggars? I know the standard ecu has limitations but your going Motec aren't you? I'd rather not risk trying something that hasn't been done before, but it would require a dropping of compression for a start, there are other things involved but can't quite remember why, but yes, i am on Motec

Your knock limited so surely you with keep increasing the boost until you reach this threshold. Don't have to run high boost all the time but for race day you wanna be able to push. What are your concerns? As I think your build has a very strong foundation.

My concern is the thing going pop again. Don't think financially or emotionally i could take the engine exploding again.

Yeah, then we would have to wait forever again :-D.. I am planing to running with 1.8 boost, and i am sure you engine would handle that.

if its treated with respect and maintained propper and built well there is no reason for it to go pop!!
(and boost kept and a reasonable level)

Why would it go pop? The strength of materials you’ve changed e.g forged etc crank/block/HG is sorted is it not? If it was gonna pop it would usually happen within the running in period. I'm sure Guy Crofts engine building skills won't let you down so really it’s all down to how good the mapper is. B you should be able to say "map this" and come back later with a fully mapped car without the worry of things breaking surly that’s why you’ve taken so long cos everything is covered. You hope

you can only run so much boost with pump fuel so no need to push it, and engine failure may have nothing to do with engine directly if its running close to the det limit a fuel pump malfunction, too high engine temp, wastegate issues etc all could ruin the engine regardless of the bits in it. It's not a race car so no need to push it too the very edge.

Very true but if the engine runs too hot he should stop the run, it the wastegate is boost creeping he should stop the run...you get my drift. We usually push till knock then retard 2-3 degrees to be on the safe side. I remember a guy was mapping a customer’s race engine and the customer kept telling the mapper what to do. He would says things like "that’s too much advance" or "I don't like that AFR" whilst hanging over the mappers shoulder. After 10mins of this the mapper stopped the run and handed over the laptop and said "You F****** do it". The guy replied "I don't know how to map". "Well P*** of then" and he kick him out the rollers and carried on mapping the guys car in piece The point that I'm making is that it all lies down to how good mapper is, so saying don’t go past 2Bar is like hanging over the mappers shoulder. I’m 100% confident in B’s build and his choice of mapper. I know it’s his baby but I’m sure it will be fine. Can’t wait to see the results, hope it all goes well

If guy croft built the engine im sure he would of given you some idea of limitations that the engine should be able to take, E.g Max RPM and such like, Just go on what Guy says, he is one of the best engine builders in the world.

Er I think advance is increased until power stops going up as opposed to hitting the det then backing it off!! (turbo car being a little different may make power up to det but the addition of advance will often show dimishing gains prior to the det period). I'm not sure advising a boost limit is hanging over anyones shoulders and GC certainly will have given his reccomendations. Fortuantly Phil at GG Motorsport is a true pro, begbie will have no issues there. And TurboJ engine failure on the road is the context I mention too high temp etc but thats not to say an operator would actually be paying attention as I can attest to having lost my first engine to a moron RR operator who thought he knew it all regardless of the number of cars he had mapped.

I'm going to be taking the rear subframe off at some point, hopefully this Saturday if the weather sorts itself out, to do the subframe bushes, trailing arm bearings and fit the Eibach anti-roll bar from the infamous Taz group buy The car will be then trailered up to sedicirich's for temp storage and a gearbox swap out, then a week or 2 later it will be off to OJZ Engineering to get the external wastegate stuff and downpipe modified, then after that, it's off for mapping.
