Doh, there's me thinking you might be offering to paint my lights laugh

They would look very nice painted cool

I think any colour Coupe would look nice with refreshed and painted lights.

steamer - you should do it yourself as the headlights are easy to crack open and re-seal . have done mine electric blue and also mr c's sprinty blue http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll102/r33-skyline/sprintyheadlights.jpg and are in the process of doing his spare set satin black . i have cracked mine 3 times and done chris's main and spare set once so they not hard to do just handy if you have a spare set to put in the car while your doing them . will get some pic's upped of my electric blue lights later .

i think the coupe looks old fashioned with the black/grey headlights and colour codeing them gives it a face lift .

i guess we have many opinions, where some do look good while others are suspect..

At the end of the day if the owner is happy then that is what matters..

I'll get better pictures up tomorrow (that's my sprinty)! As I said before I really didn't know if I would like them but I have to say they look pretty sweet. But I still believe some colours work better than others. smile Mr C

hello mate. About the headlights i dont think it is that hard to do, i plan on doing mine soon and painting them myself. You have just got to take the light out then prise off the plastic covering and the white clips but the plastic covering is very strong so there isnt much chance of breaking it. Then the plastic black cover should come off but remember to replace the plastic clips smile

MrC - they really don't suit your car - I'll take them off your hands for £20 smile

I'd like to see some lighter shots from a higher angle - the reflection of the flash has made the piccy a bit grainy

mine is in for repir to bodywork at the mo, so i asked the guy how much it would be to chuck in painting the headlights.... his answer was £20 so for £20 i thought i might as well.
If i don't like them i can always go back to standard, however my car is ink black so doubt it will be that noticeable unless a sunny day

Do you have to use a special paint or is it just a standard spray, i think i might do mine tomorrow.
Should i go red or silver or.. gloss black?

Just normal spray paint (mixed by halfords) used a white primer as a base coat, i've also done a my original set using satin black, look a tad darker but very nice. Still need to polish the plastic covers then i'll upload some pics! smile Mr C

i would go for red and if you don't like them you can always re-do them in another colour , i got my sprayer to do mine and he used 2 pack paint on them so they won't crack but mr c used normal paint and they turn out fine ( sprinty blue and satin black ) as we did two sets for him laugh

yes start early , we did mr c's spare pair in about 6 hours , your'll need a heat gun to do them but once you have them split wash the insides and get them dry asap , get them spray and while your waiting for the paint to dry you can do the lenses , do it on a sunny day as the paint will dry quicker , we used gutter sealent from b&q as it was black and left the lights in the back garden to set in the sun then re-fitted them all in 6 hours .

Read the guide! They need to be warm or nearly hot.

As bockers said there's a guide!

I have done it in five mins, turn the light lens down (on a towel) and run a heat gun around the outer edge, don't hold in one place! The plastic should get almost too hot to touch and then turn the headlight upright and then pull the lens off. It can give a bit of a fight but if you heat it up well it will come lose! smile

as mr c said but use a flat headed screw driver to loosen the lense then you should be able to pull apart if they are still hard to pull apart then you need to heat them more 10mins should do 1 light , you need to get them hot but don't worry you can't melt the black edge of the headlights just watch out for the lense as that will melt .

MrC, I stiall can't see them properly. Any chance of a few more pics from a bit furtehr away? Perhaps a front quarter shot?

I remember the last time I tried warming my lights up. I left them in the over and completely melted one, had a fit of rage and threw it up the garden... before having to put it back on. The brand new one cost me £100 laugh

Re: the lights. It looks to me like porto and silver ones look good, but I'm not keen on the yellow blue and red ones so far. Metallic cars can always pull this sort of thing off better grr

Is it just me, but colour coding the lights makes the car look wider and lower? It tidies the front end up quite a bit.

Personally i like all the colours I have seen, the yellow and red ones look very pure, great pic of the two yellows side by side, really shows the effect off.

I would certainly be prepared to pay someone to do this on my car.

well i have just painted my headlight insides, steel grey MET, to match my car, im impressed with the finish, looks like a pro job but im still unsure if they will look good on the car or not. it was a spare set i painted so i suppose i could change back if i did not like it. im just not sure if i will like the painted set on my car, i think the black insides and black grill make the front stand out from the rest of the painted bonnet, and with the painted lights i just think it may look odd. Any opinions will be grate from people.

ill try and get some pics up once the lights are fitted to the car. be a day or two thow.

i think ill love them once i have fitted but until then i have doubts, ill just change back if i dont like them and sell the painted set. going to try and sort them out tomorrow fitting wise.

just a quick one: is there any point laquering the painted bit, im happy with the finish at the moment and as long as there wont be a problem i would like to not laquer them, i also have hid's fitted and dont think the laquer would like the extra heat.

niff , leave them as they are don't bother to laquer them but if you do they shoud be fine with the hid's .

yeah im impressed, i was unsure about doing them to start with so i got a spare set of lights, that way i could change back if i did not like them, i only think they look good with certain colours thow. i have seen a yellow coop round my area with them painted and i dont like them at all, thats why i was unsure about doing mine. but i guess its personal prefrence so im not having a dig at any yellow coop owners with painted lights. smile

yeah deffinatley, not really much effort apart from getting the light cover off the lights themselfs, and after getting the hang of it on the first one the second only took 10 mins using the heat gun method.

Does the seal around the headlight cover get reused?
Or do you use new silicon to reseal it?
And what brand/type silicon?

For the best results you should remove the old seal so the lens fits back properly and just apply a new seal then push the lenses on the use some masking tape to allow the seal to set.

yes i removed the old seal with a stanley knife and applyed new seal, i used a black guttering type seal from wickes. i also fitted the lights straight after sealing, once bolted back on to the bonnet there is more than enough force to keep the lens pressed down untill the seal goes off. The guttering type seal top layer sets in minutes so its water tight and then over the space of a few hour it totaly cures. They have been on the car nearly a week and there toatlly sealed, no water or condensation at all

Yes they are tongue
Cheap to chrome here, cost like 30 quid for each side, can do also other chrome but as I've got a black 20VT, so didn't consider other options.

If you look at the other headlight, it looks like there is a cover on it. Perhaps the photo is just to show what it looks like without any reflection from the cover??
