Tony Pond

I watched him doing a couple of stages of the 78 Lombard in his TR7.
There was also the Doggarts 450SL which was liveried in green & yellow. ISTR their prep between stages considted of polishing the Doggarts advertising:
Panel 8 – The Doggarts Rally Car
During the 1970’s Doggarts sponsored a Rally Car which could be seen at many different car rally’s across the country.
“Just outside Bishop Auckland…was a garage called Oakley Service Station and the proprietor approached us one day and said ‘Look I’m a good driver, I have a Mercedes 450 SCL. I would like to suggest we have it properly done with a car bodywork specialist, and we could enter it into the Lombard Rally and the Scottish Rally and the Mintex Rally'."
Sandy and Jamie Doggart would operate the short-wave radio and read the map, while the Mercedes owner drove the car. Although no prizes were ever won, it was felt to be a good publicity opportunity for the store.
However eventually it was decided that it wasn’t good business practice to have two directors of the company driving around the country in a rally car. If anything had happened all the company and its affairs would have been left to a part-time director.
