Recently I have been seeking to find where moisture has been entering my Coupe. If I leave it parked outside, without the cover on, I find that the inside gets all damp and misty.

My quest started with the rear lamps, did them a few weeks back. I dried the car out by leaving a heater inside for a few days then left it outside again. After a few days it started to mist up again so I removed all the rear trim to check the pininfarina badges. Sure eneugh three of the four pins had tell tale signs and the area beneath them was damp too. So I have sealed the pins with some sealant and painted all the lower sections inside that area.

I then noticed a strange box located on the LHS inside, towards the top.

It is a silver unit with a plastic case taped to it, the case contains a rechargeable 6 volt battery confused

It is not a factory fit item, you can tell it has been fitted afterwards.

Anyone any ideas?

Bob

6v battery? thats strange, i would think that would be too small for the alarm battery backup (and the wrong voltage)

I suppose this is the reason why my car battery goes flat too rolleyes

If I leave my car off the conditioner the battery runs flat after about three weeks! I have in the past replaced a battery because I thought it was shot, only to discover the new one do the same.

It can't be to do with the META alarm, that unit has the battery in the siren.

Tracker?

Bob, haven't got a clue about the box but could it be the radiator inside your car has a leak?

Don't think so Pieter,

Not loosing any fluid, and it also happens without the car even being run.

Thats similar to the tracker units we had fitted to all our vehicles in work, the battery backs up the signal should the hoodlums knock out the battery to trailer the car away etc.

Is there no numbers etc on it at all?

Gareth

I think the CE number is just an approval number.

any car will do this as there is constant drain from your battery through the cars electrical system when turned off

i would go with back up battery for a tracker system. Insurance company should be able to tell you if the car has been insured with a tracker before!

Is it the signal booster for the aerial in the back window.

Ah, I thought the larger black cable was part of the box too.

Yeh, did we find out? My vote is still for it being a tracker of some sort.
