Cams won't change your top speed, they'll just affect how you get there.

not necessarily true, top speed is a function (basically) of power over aerodynamics. The more power, the faster a car will go with the caveat that the gearing may need to be altered to get the optimum top speed - so the top speed exactly coincides with the revs needed for maximum power in top gear

so increase the power further up the rev range and you may be able to rev out further in 5th or 6th gear

to be more accurate, SOME cams won't increase your top speed (if they are profiled to give more mid-range torque, for example). However, if the cam profile generates more power, then the car will have a higher top speed AND will get there quicker

hence I guess why the question was asked as to which cams would give the best top speed - not the most power/torque/acceleration/fuel economy/etc

Again, its not as simple as that! I've had one engine with C&B cams that generated peak power at just 5500, others are around where its more like 7000 or even higher. Depends on the spec of the other bits and pieces too, and the mapping

But it gets a bit simpler than realistically you have a choice of using standard cams, or C&B cams. Don't think anyone else is making a 20vt fitment commercially. I have a pair that are different to both, sit somewhere between them in terms of cam timing/duration/etc, but have no idea who made them. If you are really keen you could engage the likes of Kent Cams to make a pair to your own bespoke timing I guess, we thought about it for my latest engine but will see what results we get first

Sorry, not being very helpful. A more pertinent question might be "why is top speed so important to you", unless you are planning a run at TOTB, can't think when you're likely to achieve it

You can impact the performance by timing the cams in differently - you can even make more power on the stock cams by timing them differently at the expense of responsiveness.

I did this, poor low down response, but gained HP throughout the rev range, IIRC something near 18bhp, but i wouldnt advise it.
