This is my first post, Hi to everyone on here.

I viewed a Yellow 20v turbo in the west of Ireland today.

The owner knew little about cars, brake fluid was filthy, not much coolant in her and very little oil on the dipstick.
The keeper started it up revved it for a bit and a good bit of white smoke came out. No smoke on idle and good oil pressure.
The car had a good body, little to no stone chips. Brakes, tires and suspension were good.

Owner had it listed for 1300 euros, id say he would let it go for less. Is it worth offering about 600 euro and if the engine was to go, would it be worth this much in parts?

Hi and welcome to the forum! thumb

Hah.... I replied to your post on Octane earlier!

Where is this car asvertised? I can't see it on Octane, CBG or Carzone or AT.

Technically the car would be worth more than €1,000 as parts. However your market is seveeeeeeeeeeerly limited in Ireland. If I had a shed I'd take it and use as a donor. However, breaking it will take forever and if you need the space I'm sure you'd soon get sick of it languishing there looking sorry for itself!

As I mentioned in the Octane post if it's just a turbo that needs doing you're looking at about £400 for a recon + fitting costs. I think mine was €800 in total for the turbo + fitted + mini service.

Get the AA to check it out, or a good independant garage that knows Coupes

Thanks for the advice. Ad is in the the Galway advertiser. Here it is:

FIAT, YELLOW, 20V, Coupe turbo, 1998, good car, NCT 03/10, cl, alarm, CD, €1,300, quick sale. Tel 087 1248055.

Only one key with this, and it looks like the dash lights have been fiddled with, airbag light has been disabled.

I wonder could the AA tell me anything more about the car than I already know, as in my only concern is state of the engine and turbo.

Well the AA man could tell you if the white smoke is just from worn seals in the turbo or if it is something more serious.

If you're unsure, then put on your trainers, sweatbands and shorts....... and run away!

laugh

hi welcome to the forum, daithi is dead right in saying run away because even if you buy it for 600 it will cost you more and more and more .....dont want to turn you off but dont go into buying a coupe without your dorothy glasses on because they are love, love ,love hate money hate money hate love love in whatever order.as for aa man ask him does he even know what a fiat coupe is crazy and then let him answer your questions.Fiat mechanics in garages over here dont even know what a coupe is never mind fix it.But if you got the bug buy it just beware and ps it it looks as good sitting there on the driveway as driving it tongue laugh rolleyes

I walked away from it. Id say a year ago this car would have been excellent but now its not so good. Its a bit sad really the current owner is not driving it so it has been sitting in the corner of a car park completed neglected.

After having a good look around one id say a 20v coupe is definitely in my future. So the search begins.

The guy rang me about this a week later and offered it for a price I couldn't refuse so its mine now.

It seems better than expected, the turbo looks in need of a rebuild but I'm happy with it so far. I intend working on it myself for the next couple of months.

Yeah, I drive a red 156 about town most days.

I'm enjoying the coupe already, it seems easier to work on then I thought it would be. Fingers crossed there's no major engine wear, Ill find out as soon as my compression tester arrives, it looks good for now though. Right now I'm stripping the interior and refurbing a few bits of black trim, so its off the road.
