Hi there guys, i would like drill holes in my air box, could someone tell how many holes i needs and the best location?

also roughly what price and make for a decent panel filter?

finally, being a novice to tuning, what exactly would a boost controller do to /for a 20vt ? thanks

hi mate, i would make the holes a good inch round in the side of the box BELOW the panel!!!

and i would have a look at the tuning guide!

helps every one!

before you decide to turn your boost up with a controller what are you looking to achieve from the car?

you can get a good panel filter from any of the traders in the trader section on here!

There is plenty of information in this section:

http://www.fiatcoupeclub.org/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=17&page=1

You can drill the airbox almost however you like as long as the holes are below the panel filter. 3-4 cms in diameter seems to be the most common.

You can also replace the entire airbox with a cone filter - I think that there was one in the for sale section not too long ago.

As far as panel filters go K&N do one for the coupe.

Boost contollers well - they control the boost. There are lots of different types ranging from manual to electronic. Depending on the spec of the car and setup you have to be careful how you make use of one - if you are gung ho about it you'll end up without an engine. They also remove a lot of the ECU's safety measures if it detects a problem.

Instead of extra holes you can swap the first tube to a 4" like me. No extra noice but more oomph in top revs. Seen here. (old pic)

Best boostcontroller is the std ECU and you can ask Flea to upgrade it for you, to get around 30hp extra.

Hi Per...im interested in trying this out too. By the first tube do you mean the one at the start of the "S" pipe coming out of the box before the MAF?

Also noticed the modified bell-mouth for the inlet of the airbox...does this setup change the low-end characteristics of the way the car drives?

The "bell-mouth" was what I meant. laugh (I'm a swede..)
No, the great thing about it was; no noticable loss in low-end grunt, no more noice, but more significantly more power in higher revs. smile

With it I use std paper filter, no restriction at all if you change it regularly. It's a master of cleaning air too! wink

Hi, thanks for your replies so far. As i said i m a novie to the dark art of tuning so really not sure what to do or where to start but will look at the links some of you have paosted, i do know that i had a 20v non turbo that had a cone filter and i loved the throaty sound it gave.

my next was a six speed turbo, no cone filter but i sold it for a number of reasons. it was my first turbo car and i missed it after it went! so here i am now having picked up a 5 speed and though i dont have alot of cash burning a hole in my pocket, i do want to spend something on a bit of modifications. i had settled for the idea of a g-tec chip and k&n filter to start but read on the forum that K&n filters were found to be far to noisy.

Gunzi, if i'm right, you've added a pipe to the side of your air box. what impact does that have noise and performanc wise?

Main concern with K&N is that they're usually bad for the AFM, clogs it with dirt/oil over time.
