hey hey y'all

just wanted to introduce myself and say hi.

me and the missus have just bought a red 16v coupe for a second car and a bit of fun really. we work together so it will be a weekend motor really.

its a 96 n reg...n960pyn to be exact...does anyone know it?
got a full history, 109k miles, cambelt done at 68k, clutch done twice, water pump just done, tyres just done, brake pads done, timing belt, alloys refurbed in black, new exhaust, 10 disc changer, sub, 1200w amp in boot.

only niggle so far is the heater blows ok but no warm air...any thoughts? there are a couple of dings but nothing major!

i know it aint the fastest thing in the world but i cant stop smiling when i am driving it!

looking forward to giving y'all a flash.

Hi mate - good choice of car smile

Maybe the thermostat giving you trouble, if the temperature gauge stays low (50) unless you're stuck in traffic, it might be a good place to start?

Welcome

I'll flash you back smile

Very difficult DO NOT attempt, I repeat DO NOT attempt.

Only joking.......though I got someone to do it for me smile

Call Joe at County Cruising (see Traders Thread on main Forum List) or motor-mech, shouldn't be more than £60.00

There is also a How to (How to thread) if you fancy doing it yourself?

Purely by coincidence, there's a how-to in the how-to section, pictures and all. Though I say it myself it's beautifully written and photographed... http://www.fiatcoupeclub.org/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=86787

If you're happy with a spanner, it's no big deal though the bits can be fiddly. There's a pipe at the back of the stat about an inch across which is tricky and may have started to split, so watch for it. Also, you'll want to get a fistful of jubilee clips to replace the Fiat types, unless you have a fiat removal tool.

And congratulations on buying the best model. Don't let those 20vt types annoy you!

Oh, and welcome to the original poster, now get those belts changed today because otherwise your next post will be "Where can I get a new 16v engine" and we'll all reply in unison..... "You can't!"

I can add to the recommendation of getting belts done - I bought my son a 16v for his birthday and I BEGGED him to get the cambelt changed - it was already paid for, he just had to book it in.

A couple of weeks later, it snapped and took out four valves (which was very lucky - it usually bends more than it leaves)

Seriously - save yourself the heartache of destroying the engine and save an increasingly-rare 16v N/A from the scrappies

Oh - and welcome to the forum laugh

Apologies for all the lectures above, but the 16v really is becoming quite rare, and many people are of the opinion that it will be the first of the Coupe models to gain proper classic status. There were only 700 or so ever registered in the UK, so estimates of the current population range from about 500 down to just a couple of hundred.

You therefore have a duty to look after it wink

As Nigel said above smile look after her laugh

Get the belts changed, service and the thermostat looked at by Motor Mech.

Paul will be able to give it the once over and tell you the overall condition anything that needs to be done etc. You will then feel a lot more relieved and suddenly enjoy the car far more.

Welcome laugh

Cheers guys.

Just spoke to the seller as he did tell me he had done a lot of work to th car in April but being unmechanically minded and blinded by the looks of the car I didn't really listen.

He is a mechanic so he did all the work himself. He told me he had done the following,

New valves new headgasket set new waterpump new timing belts it been serviced exhaust system sound system new pads and discs new clutch slave cylinder new clutch done begining of year.

He said he has paperwork for it all but forgot to give it to me. Will post it asap. I rang the motor factors he used who confirmed his purchases.

Anybody live local to me who knows about these cars that can have a look over it?

Best bet is to bring it to one of the meets. Perhaps the Italian food night in Bedford which will be coming round again soon.
