http://www.thisiswesternmorningnews.co.u...il/article.html He asked magistrates in Liskeard for leniency, saying he needed his licence in order to take his 14-year-old son to school. He said the boy's mother had been killed in a car accident last year and that he was a single parent.
. . .Yet he still drives like an idiot!

Oh the shame of it....... He said that, although it might sound "rather bizarre", he had not known at the time that the Fiat belonged to him as a family member had registered it in his name without him realising. Has the coupé really sunk that low?

So he was doing 87 in what? A 70 zone dual carriageway as the A30 goes past Launceston? Hardly enough to justify being called an idiot IMHO. But the fact he had 9 pts already should have made him more careful, if he had had a clean license we would never have heard anything. Or do any of you "local lads" know better? Oh wait, you're not from Cornwall or even Devon next door I wish someone would register a Coupe in my name without me knowing (and then give me the keys of course)

Ross - the six month ban was for amassing 12 points, not for the speeding offence Surely, if a car had been registered in his name, he'd receive a logbook, which *might* just have alerted him that he'd inherited a car? TBH, 87mph on a dual carriageway isn't "idiotic" (depending of course on the conditions at the time). In fact its pretty close to the threshold at which Plod would not bother to pull you. I would say that Mr Smit suffers more from a lack of observation and judgement that any degree of idiocy. We've all done 87mph (or more ) on public roads. To have ammassed 12 points shows that he's not adjusted his driving style to accomodate his precarious position when he got to nine points. Personally, if I'd got to nine points, I'd be considering selling the Coupe in favour of a nice cosy Fiesta diesel or similar.

True, the length of time it takes to produce the paperwork makes it ridiculous, although you may get an "attitude test" at the roadside.... However, the ACPO guidelines, which *most* scamera vans operate to state that a NIP won't be issued below 79mph. Then again, 87mph by detection device suggests he'd have been seeing 95+ on his speedo. I would say that Mr Smit suffers more from a lack of observation and judgement that any degree of idiocy...... Personally, if I'd got to nine points, I'd be considering selling the Coupe in favour of a nice cosy Fiesta diesel or similar. Couldn't agree more, and precisely why the totting-up system exists: if drivers cannot moderate their behaviour via several warnings then the system is obliged to remove the *privilege* that is a driving licence.....

How does someone who is obviously completely absent-minded (as shown by his amassing of penalty points AND not realising he had owned a car), get to a level where he is running a multi-million pound 'project' ?

I think you would be surprised at the some of the people who are millionaires or run such projects.

Honestly I dont think it`s bad to drive at 100mph+ if it is safe for you and others (good car and free road). many idiots drive in my place at rather low speeds but very dangerously (overtaking and changing lanes all the time right in front of other cars) And there is no punishment for such behavior but when you speed a little on the open road driving alone, that ********** police stops you in the "ban or bribe" way.
