just ordered a new set of HIDs for the car, previous owner had a 10k set in there. I felt they were good in dark conditions but with rain and other street lighting I didn't think that the visibility was that good

Just ordered a new set from hids4u.co.uk rated at 6k, I've heard good things about this company on the Seat Cupra, Civic forums. The lights are more expensive than the cheap ones from ebay but they look to be of higher quality.

total cost is normally £100 delivered, saw a coupon code on the Seat forum 'STRATHY' that worked and got 25% discount!

I haven't taken them out the car yet but when I do I will update this thread or PM you. the delivery will take a few days and I get them installed professionally at the garage as I'm too lazy to do it myself! .. will take a couple of weeks maybe.

They were installed in 2007 by PowerItalia (I think they are a TurboRevs set that was a group buy on here a long time ago) and have been faultless in the 4 months I have owned the car. They take about 5-10 seconds to fully warm up on switch on.

you can have them for free, if you pay me the postage costs I'll send them.. no warranty implied though but if you look through my 'personalised number plate' thread, you can see a couple of photos of them in action in the dark!

Could you not just have changed the bulbs for 6K ones confused

I thought the ballasts would be the same...

I don't think there was much difference in price between the discounted new set and buying new bulbs.

I would imagine the ballasts of the new set would be better, smaller and being digital - more reliable (the old set of ballasts are quite a bit bigger) . the new set has a 2 year warranty with them as well.

Yes the costs of a new set of bulbs is not much less than a whole new kit.

Which is why I replaced mine.

Replacement HID bulbs, £15 on eBay, from the guys I got my HIDs from (no problems in two years...). Ok, so you'll have a bit of a wait before they arrive. smile

well the kit has arrived at my parents house in Worthing (40 mile drive away), unfortunately this weekend I am off to Centre Parks but I have next monday off work if that is any good?

No problem in travelling up to Guildford or London either, the coop isn't my daily drive so is always good to get out for a drive smile

of course, been on the phone to me dad, apparently the kit looks really professional and high quality. Decent fitting instructions in English, not chinese or a poor translation!

I know you can get a lot of cheaper kits around on ebay and the group buy which was on here, but I've seen nothing but praise for these HIDS4U kits on various car forums, people are saying they are better than the cheap ones.

I will take some more photos of the old set and the new set. watch this space ...

I work Mondays for the family business but everday in a week other then Monday I'm free

Well I'd be more then happy to fit you new one in exchange for you old ones as my lights are rubbish in the country lanes

In the end I got them fitted locally, Recently I lost my keys & Clifford Remote so had to visit Huets Car Audio to get a replacement Clifford Remote. Whilst they were doing that, they fitted my HIDs.

Today I had a chance to take the coop out and take some photos of the new 6k HIDs.

Looking at the car lights, there is a notable difference between the 6k and 10k. The 6k lights are white but with a blue tint around the outside. When driving along and the lights are reflected in a shop windows / bus shelter they look blue-ish rather than pure white. On the road however is a different story with a good strong white light output.

I certainly felt confident driving along country lanes with these HIDs, they are bright but the cut off points are very sharp, no glare and certainly no-one flashing me even when driving up and down on country lanes

I'm very impressed and certainly think this was the right decision in changing to 6k hids. I think the real test will be when I am out driving and it's raining heavily though.

All in (purchase and installation) was £90 and such an improvement over normal & halogen bulbs.

Photos taken were taken before dusk, during dusk, retail park with low lighting and country lanes with no street lamps.

Hi Duncan, couldn't get the image popper to work but the links above should be ok!!

I went for the 6000k, I've got this rating on mine already but one of the ballasts had packed up and it was cheaper to buy a set and end up with some spares than to buy a new ballast on its own!!

agreed, it's crazy that buying a new set works out the same as buying a bulb!

I've never driven a coop with standard bulbs in before so I'd like to compare mine against a standard set.

people on here claim the standard bulbs are like candles! are they really that bad?

Very nice Duncan. A couple of LEDs in the sidelights to colour match would be the crowning glory. These are cheap as chips.

In terms of the difference between standard bulbs and 35w HIDS, behold:!

They are terrible Duncan. A lot of cars of this era had poor lights but the Fiats took the biscuit. The ones on the bravo are also poor.
the coupe ones are truly bad and personally I find them dangerous. I suppose when they were new and less dirty on the lenses and covers they might have been passable but on all three of my coupe's they have been very poor/dim so on my latest coupe I have decided enough is enough. smile

I was out with a fellow coupe owner Sat night, driving along the M27, he was most impressed by my headlights and is considering getting some himself.

That's the first time I've gone in a coop convoy (well only 2 cars!), it was awesome, turning peoples heads etc!

let me know what you think of them Bridges, as I said - I've never driven the coop with standard bulbs before going to HIDs!
