Just joined up and wanted your opinions on this car

http://www.swapz.co.uk/swapz/1045443/

Now i know the 20vt has 220bhp standard, and the 16vt doesnt, but what else is wrong with his discription, if anything?

Can they be superchipped like he says?

Mike

The top end has been rebuilt - this sounds like the cambelt has snapped. This usually leads to a wrecked bottom end. Can't remember the details why, but I'm sure someone will know.

Cam belts done in 2007? It's coming up for a change then.

Surly if the cam belt had snapped, and the head being rebuilt would mean its Okay? It says 2007, so after 3 years any problems would have shown by now? Will this one have the 4 pot brembo's or is that only the 20VTs?

After reading some stuff on here, standard boost is just under 12psi, altho he claims to be hitting 260 on 12?

Im thinking no chance. I might email the guy asking a few questions, but do you guys have any Qs i should ask him?
Im thinking:

What chip is it?
Is it 12PSI, or is that a typo (could be 21psi, like the EVO chip?)

Thanks for your help guys.
Mike

The 16vt doesn't come with Brembo's.

12psi would NOT generate 260bhp either unless he has a larger hybrid turbo installed.

If he doesn't know what chip's in it and sounds like a bit of a "boy" I'd steer clear!

Hi Mike,

Have a read of this. First paragraph after the bullet points. Agreed most cars with a snapped cambelt just need a top end rebuild, however the 2.0 16v engine's bottom end in the Coupe can have further damage. It may be fine though, as you say if it's been 3 years then it should be fine smile

Ideally belt should be changed every 2 years on a 16VT. 3 is realistic. More than 3 is suicidal.

16VT's don't have the brembos (thank God!)

You say replace the belt every 2 years, but that link says

Cambelt (change every five years or 50k miles)

So it could possibly have 3 years left on it if it was done late 07?

Will email the guy and see what he says.

Mike

i cant stand those ferrari bumpers for a start.

Although the guide does say 50000/5 years for the cambelt change, most of the people in the know say 20-30000 or 2-3 years.

Offer him a tin of beans as a swap and tell him you expect half of it back

I can't stress this enough. That guide is primarily for the 20VT not the 16VT

And you're right about those 360 bumpers . . . .

hurl

I can't even understand why you are even thinking about it.
There are lots of straight coupes around......just look and don't go for the first one you see....unless it is exceptional of course....not like this one.
If anyone that knew coupes was selling one, they would not make so many errors like in that sales advert.

No such thing as an "expert" mate....just people who know and love coupes giving you their opinions.
Thinking about it....maybe flea, barnacle and a few others could be classed as such smile
ps....hope you will be back ?

the add is embarassing to read i doubt he has the 220 bhp he claims is standard (actually about 195)..220 is 20vt please dont get involved with it there are far better cars out there especially at that type of money..i take it yours is worth similar?... the guy sounds like a proper plonker so you would expect him to do plonker like things to and with the car including putting that bumper on...(not that i have anything against them but piu or something maybe)at least the colour is right laugh ive pm'd you also
