That seems like the Scorpion key fob.
Typical thing is to disconnect it if it keeps going off or draining the battery.
There would be no harm in reconnecting it to see what happens?.

its not working thats the thing, press the buttons nothing happens. so im using the key. does it need re coding to get it back working when the fob is fitted with new batteries? or is there and on/off switch in the brain somewhere?

Not really. It is quite a simple thing. I think standard practice if there's an issue is to pull the connectors out of the side of the black box. Quite often that issue can be a siren full of water, flat fob batteries, dodgy connections etc.

Have you found the black box yet?

The fuse box can hinge down, but I don't think that helps the access much. I just lay on my back on the floor with a torch and looked up. In my case I saw 2 connectors, long 10 wire header connectors and no box as the Fiat mechanic had nicked it when the previous owner had problems.

Right been out earlier and the black box is there. The 2 main plugs were disconnected and so wee the 2 lil ones.
So after a lot of hand scraping,i managed to put all plugs back in,except the alarm led.And to my suprise, when i started the car something was ticking like the alarm was going off.So then i tried the Hazard switch, the siren went off evil I then tried the indicators, the siren went off, and to top it off the fob wasnt responding,so im unsure as to whats going on evil the red led on the remote works, but unsure if the battery isnt strong enough to operate the r/c/l as it looks old and a bit rusty.

Anyone any ideas? Ive had to disconnect it all for that reason.

The clicking is the alarm trying to drive the hazard lights.
So your alarm is basically going off.

One function of alarms is that if they are armed and you do something to drop the voltage in the car the alarm will go off.

Good news if your siren went off. They usually fill up with water.

So it seems you have an almost working alarm that you can't disarm.

I got a new alarm fob battery from Jessops camera shop. About 8 quid IIRC.

you have email cheers smile

yeah i thought thats what the ticking noise was,Alarm going off but no noise nor hazards.cos after a minuite itd shut up,few seconds later it'd cary on.

tbh when it went off it kept stuttering, kinda like it was chirping.. but didnt have it going for ages due to obvious reasons.

STILL NOT SORTED frown went out and bought a BN duracell battery today,i tried quite a few times following the 'reset guide' for this and still wont have it. Im still getting the clicking noise and the red led on when ign is turned on. Its the fobs isnt responding/turning the alarm off.

Can you manually reset it by turning the ecu/brain off and on etc?

are there any fuses for the alarm? Right above the main fuse board are 4/5 fuses tooked up away with a loom coming out of them,im sure they lead to the black box? Ive tried shining my torch at them to see if they are blown but i couldnt see well. Also i didnt want to remove them if they were for the car.

Have you tried this Mikey?

Scorpion alarm reset

I've had numerous problems with my alarm in the past as have others. Dodgy wiring to the siren, dodgy wiring to the bonnet sensor etc... and finally my siren would just go off for no reason.

yeah i found that yesterday morning and tried it quite a few times.I didnt hear anythin 'click'.

Ive just got off the phone to scorpion who said my alarm is the 918u as i can still start the car (with the 918 you cant aparantly?) He basically said if that reset wont work its goosed,a job for the bin. He said it has probably lost its sync as it might have been stood for a while and you cant recode them as their is no code.

a 2nd hand 1 would work BUT would need the fob for it

The 918U (U = ugrade) alarm turns the Thatcham Category 2 CODE immobiliser into Thatcham Category 1, but all it does is add remote central locking with voltage and interior movement sensors, plus the alarm siren and connection to the indicators, there's no connection to the CODE system although if fitted correctly the power to the starter motor solenoid is supposed to be re-routed to come from the alarm ECU, but sometimes this hasn't been done so you can quite happily start the engine and drive off with the alarm going off.

If it is goosed, you might be able to pick up a new-old-stock unit on eBay (I did!) but I would also take a look at the siren, take it out and open it up and make sure there's no water in there, also check any in-line connectors int he wiring.

Do you get any flashes from the LED if you connect that?

The right hand button on the remote is a "panic" button that will immediately set off the alarm if pressed, perhaps the contacts under the button are dirty or the button is stuck? (you did say it was a bit minging inside)

Do you have another remote fob (system should come with two)?

Have you checked the dip switch settings on the alarm ECU?

Have you checked where the little white 4 pin connector goes to? I can't remember where it goes but I think on mine it goes to some further little connectors and there may have been some fuses there too.

But at the end of the day, no matter how attached you might be to it, it's only an alarm, and can easily be replaced by another one.

if i were to get another scorpion unit i would still need the fob though?
Nothing happens when i press either of the buttons.Only got the 1 fob as it was attached to the original key and red key. Ive had the fob apart and cleaned the buttons, chip board throughly with a paint brush and cloth to get all gunk off.

Dip switch settings? no,what do you mean by that?
There is another lil white button thing that looks like a screwdriver can be used in it in the fob?

The led on the dash stays lit when ignition turned on.I dont get any flashes from the indicators though or the siren going off, just the ticking. The siren goes off if i do something,as described earlier on.

4 pin connector? not seen 1 yet.
I just plugged in 2 main looms, one 3 pin(sensors) and one 2 pin(led). There are however i think 4/5 (cant remember exactly now) fuses near it with a loom coming out of it im sure when i wriggled it,the black box moved? They were awkward to get to,right above the main fuse board.

Cheers

There is a little slide button on the side of the fob. If the button has falled off you will have the tiny bit that it fits to left - make sure its either up or down and not in the middle, otherwise the fob doesn't work.

Did you ever get this working?
I have similar symptoms on my system which has been dis-connected for years. Would like to get it all functioning properly again so I'm curious as to the solutions others have found?
