I wonder if that's real? Surely the wheels and tyres would destroy themselves after being pushed sideways like that? I wuld have thought the tyres would come off the rims causing the wheel to dig in and flip the car*

*This theory is based on years of reading comic books and watching cheap action movies.

Im in Agreement C2D, my votes on the car flipping.

I'm saying real, if you notice the clio is casting a shadow at the beginning of the video, then there are some sparks that fly off at about 19 seconds

I'm amazed the lorry driver didn't feel it when it got there and why didn't they clio driver use the horn?

It's real, I have seen this happen myself and seen the result dozens of times on the M25.
It normally happend when continental lorries switch lanes an do not see the car in a blind spot at the front corner of their cab, as they switch they flip the rear bumber of the car car and it runs sideways along the front of the cab, often well out of sight too!

I'm sorry but wet road or not those tyres would be smoking (if they even stayed on for that long).

I say FAKE! .

Judging by the sparks emmiting from the back or the lorry the tyres have long since gone. The contact patch of the tyres compared to the force of the lorry would mean it will easily push along like the video.

Many reports of these incidents and a lot of the time the lorry driver had no idea he was pushing a car at all crazy

Having seen it happen myself, albeit with the lorry driver stopping pretty quickly, I can easily nelieve this to be genuine.

A vote for fake here too.

There is no way those tyres would survive. It would be on the rims, emitting tons more sparks, and probably flipping over too.

Anyway, it's been removed from YouTube now.

I'm not sure how it could be fake, what with the driver of the lorry being sent home once the video was released, and the police started making enquiries.

Well apparently it was already investigated by the haulage firm anf police back in Jan when it occurred, and they are now going to reinvestigate it in the light of this footage.

That seems pretty real circumstances to me.

I can't see how anyone would spend so much time and effort making such a crap fake.

Let's face it, if your making a fake video to show off your wonderful CGI skills, would you:

1. Use such a poor quality phone clip?
2. Not try to make it more dramatic?

I think those that are crying "FAKE!", are suffering from movie reality syndrom. A fantasy world where the laws of physics are stretched to their limits for the sake of dramatic effect.
A place where cars explode on impact and the bullet riddled hero crawls from the burning wreck.

It is understandable, we see much more in the way of accidents and extreme circumstance in the movies than we do in real life. Let's face it how many here have REALLY seen a car being pushed sideways?

That's the whole point. If you are making a fake vid then you would use the "crapness" of a shaky video phone to mask the fakeness.

That said, if it is being investigated by the police now then I guess it must be real. To me the lorry looked like it was going too fast.

Oh and yes I have seen a real car being pushed sideways before - Kyle and Sarah push the Terminator through a car park and into a wall at high speed laugh

Id say its real, the lorry does look like its going fast but then we dont know how fast the car that was filming is going.

Wet tarmac will reduce alot of friction so there wouldnt be much smoke, even if its burnt through the tyres itl be rubbing on aluminium wheels which wouldnt cause many sparks at all, even on dry tarmac.

Interesting, it says in the article that the lorry clipped her but her orientation on the front makes it look more likely that she went to change lanes, didnt look in her mirror (or lifesaver) and clipped him.

I await the lorry dirvers side of the story. Come on Stan, get to it laugh

They showed this on Fifth Gear a while back and how the lorry changing lane could tap the tailgate fo the car in the lane and it would flip round in front of the lorry cab. It was shocking how easily it could happen.

My sister works in the Vets with this lady. She has been fairly traumatized by the whole thing and in the end caved in and got Max Clifford to represent her as there where journalists waiting for her outside her work every day and calling 50 - 60 times a day trying to speak to her. She got paid for the TV stuff but not very much and to make matters worse her clio still hasn't been repaired.

The people at her work thought she was exaggerating what happened but then they saw the video.

This does actually happen quite often as bockers says.

My other half works for the emergency services and has now been to a few identical incidents to this.
All the ones she has been to, when the driver of the car was asked what speed they were doing at the time of collision, all said about 50-55mph...

So thats the problem you see, people are joining the motorway at the same speed as the lorry resulting in the collision.

I can imagine Top Gear doing an experiment to find out how.

Anyone who engages Max Clifford has ££££ in their eyes, obviously she got over her ordeal & moved on to make money out of it.

OK seems it's a bit quiet on here as someone has pointed out, so I thought I'd put the cat among the pigeons on this & point out. On further thoughts, although an accident, I personally think that the driver of the Clio should have been more vigilant. It's a well known fact that lorries have very bad blind spots & should be treated as if they haven't seen you in certain situations. Motorway driving is very different compared to other road designs, but up here we have big lorries with very large log loads,as an instance, I always keep well out of their way.

I think some may not agree with me, but there are occasions when you have to be more observant & think well ahead as what could happen & think the worst.

Now I will sit back & see if I've shot myself in the foot. laugh

Not at all. It's incumbent on the driver of *every* vehicle to avoid a collision.

Mind you, the numbers of people who just flash and go when changing lanes...

On the way to pick up the coupé from Scouserland last week with my old man, We were at a set of temporary traffic lights at roadworks just past Flint. My dad had just said "These roadworks are a pain in the ass, it puts another half hour on your journey. Have you noticed the roadworks contractors have foreign plates?" When we heard the Loudest CRUNCH! and we saw one of the road contractor's lorries wheels actually up on the bonnet of some poor sod's blue 406 shocked It would have been a write-off. The bonnet, wing, windscreen, bumper all smashed to smithereens.
It was a T-Junction opposite the roadworks, and the lorry had gone in the right-hand lane to turn right. I think he must have thought "oh I'll just cut across to get to the entrance" not noticing this 406 was in the left lane. it was only a 10mph smash, but I'd bet it was in his blind-spot. I don't think the 406 had much of a chance with that one!

Coopless!

I can imagine Top Gear doing an experiment to find out how.

5th Gear did just that a few years ago.
