In a coupe with bog standard aerodynamics and rolling wheel radius, you need 396bhp@ wheels at 200mph.
In a 6 speed car this is at 7,260rpm in 6th.
In a 5 speed car this is 7,950 in 5th.

I seem to remember that Barbz got 177 in his coupe before bricking it. I think Nigel/Flea have worked out in theory how fast their cars would go gearing wise.
There's never been a coupe at bruntingthorpe/v-max AFAIK

Down a 2 mile straight I got to an indicated 175mph. I braked for the corner quite early but the numbers weren't really go up much by then. It flew up to 165mph though.
To get to 200mph you would need some serious power and a VERY long straight.
EDIT - it was quite a hot day, some colder air may have helped.

Mine was down Bruntingthorpe.
I have said this before, entry speed doesn't matter that much. Say you were going 90mph into the corner. How much distance does it take to get to that speed. 1/8th of a mile? So it doesn't make hardly any difference when talking about top speeds because you cover that distance in a blink of an eye almost.
I think you would need over 600bhp to get close.

Just to add, at 175mph my car still felt very stable. Not sure what another 25mph would be like though.

iv found a 430 which hit 200mph but thats a 4.3 v8 with 490bhp and Curb Weight of 3,196 lbs. but before you go oh theres been coopes with 500bhp, that v8 isnt being streesed out and is designed to do what it does best, the coupes engine was never intended to produce 500bhp and more, plus how much damage would you do to just get to 200mph, it would never cruise without screaming its tits off please let me die now click

what ferrari with 400bhp manages 200mph, dont quote estimated Alright, so they don't quite manage it, but my point about the skylines stands. When I say a coop needs 400bhp @ wheels, there is no room for argument. I'm using the laws of physics factoring in aerodynamics and force. It may well be that there is no straight long enough for a coop to amanage it, but it will get there.

because you cover that distance in a blink of an eye almost. It might be worth noting that 200mph is 90 metres per second, I hate to think what the stopping distance is!! On google it is claimed a 700 bhp Celica cracked 202mph, I would say the coop is slippier than the Celica, but not by much, so 600+ would be needed, but thats from a completely non mathmetical opinion!

look saying 400bhp is fine but how long can that engine produce 400bhp without going bang
when your on the rolling road ok my car made !"*bhp, but that was acheved for 1 minute or so untill the tuner lifted off, you try that on a motorway for 10-20 minutes,

look theres one way to work this out, is the any on johnS's rolling road printouts on here, they should have a top terminal speed on them, if there not bugati veron speeds its never going to happen on the road

look theres one way to work this out, is the any on johnS's rolling road printouts on here, they should have a top terminal speed on them, if there not bugati veron speeds its never going to happen on the road That wouldn't work would it? As RRs only go up to 4th gear and all it will tell you is in theory a car can do 25mph per 1000 rpm thus in theory it should be able to do xxx mph. But in reality its a different story?! I once drove at 144mph (GPS) in my 300 bhp coop, in Europe, and that was scary and quick, the car still had some left I reckon, but when I looked up I saw a bridge way off in the distance, split second later I was flying under it, things were moving way too quickly for me, I lost my bottle and let up!
