Where does everyone get the idea that their cars will be running 260 bhp with just a gtech1 and maybe a boost valve ? The safest you can run a standard engine is 1.2 bar anyway. My car was RR with a gtech1 and 1.2 bar and it made 235bhp which sounds about right to me. It then made 261 bhp AFTER flea had mapped it. When people say "260bhp with a gtech1" ,they should back it up with a RR printout otherwise they should say that it is just a guess....which it normally is. I bring this up because I have seen so many adds for coupes where this figure is thrown around......without RR to back it up and if it is backed up with a printout,it should say so. If the car is running at 260bhp with the chip and had not been mapped,I think I would be a bit worried about the fueling even though I can't see it making that anyway.

If it's got a rolling road printout then you'd see what the fueling was doing.
Still I'm glad you've brought some more random outpouring of drivel to us all. BTW my coupe runs 13bar on standard internals and 970bhp.

so that means its a waste of time getting it mapped....may as well just shot a gtech1 in then......is that what we are saying ?

No I don't think anyone said that!
All we are saying is the GTECH can make 260bhp Safely ? That is the word though..."can".....in other words it is possible and not definate as every cou pe is different. I accept that it may be able to make that but it may also make a lot less and without a RR ,how can anyone say it is making this or that ?

If you want cheap power get a GTEC 1 with breathing mods. If you want linear power tailored to your car with a little extra price tag get a fleamap.
It doesn't matter what map your Coupe has on it as long as you like it and it's safe!

First of Spit, your numbers, are we talking at the fly or at the wheels?
RR has its problems as simple things like temp and tyre pressures can make a difference to what the dyno reports your running power wise. Different dynos give different numbers. In fact the only way to get a close to truth idea on power difference before and after mapping is to run on the same RR with the same tyre pressures and the same intake temps. I suspect you didn't do that?
Not trying to teach you to suck eggs, BHP at the fly is an estimation as well as were calculating drivetrain loss in to the equation with variables like tyre slip, gear ratios ect hard to quantify.
Finally, in questing the point of your post, is it a rant against people spouting numbers on estimates? The advice given with any Gtec is for a RR fulling run to be done. If thats not been done, more fool them.

Mine was 236 bhp with Gtec 1 and 1.2 bar. That was with a cone filter that was much too small for the car so now it is probably a little more - 245ish? Interestingly, the fuel economy was excellent with the too-small filter - much more thirsty now

Typically a Gtec1 will add around 25-30 BHP on a standard 20vt. A claim of +40 BHP without a RR run to back it up is extremely optimistic and most likely not accurate.

Spit, no-one was slagging you off, you asked a query and both myself and Bockers responded by saying we both had cars that made over or made 40 bhp with a gtech 1 chip. No-one mentioned safety at that point, the Flea map may be safer than a generic chip, but my car never blew up with a chip in it, so in that respect I would say its safe! The other thing is no-one ever, or rarely RRs their car with no chip, so for example, you made 235 with a chip, but you may only make 200 with no chip! I made 240 with no chip and that was RR'd, so after a chip I would have made in excess of 260 easily. Just enjoy your car with your flea map and don't worry about everyone else, would be my advice, or I reckon you might blow up

Paul, Every coupe is different regardless if the mods or the chip is the same the results do vary a bit you just have to accept it Ben

Benny, that has been my point all along if you care to re read my first post. All cars are different so how can anyone say what their car is producing with chip without having the proof of a RR read out

you are probably right. I mean,a K&N air filter is worth an extra 10bhp and that's without the dump valve mind The list goes on and on

Interestingly, the fuel economy was excellent with the too-small filter - much more thirsty now Erm no Neil totally wrong I'm afraid mate. On your/my 20vt I took the filter off as I heard a myth saying the filter was too small whilst on the dyno and it made the exact same power as with the filter on. On a standard turbo at 1.2 bar the filter size doesn't matter at all. If you're getting into the realms of hybrid turbos and 300bhp + then the bigger filter is better! I have the same filter that was on that car now on my 16vt and did the same test again and again same power. Please folks correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure a free flowing filter is a free flowing filter?

I am assume that my coupe is putting out about 205-210 bhp without a gtec 1 chip, at most, as the turbo is original (over 90k miles covered) and most probably on it's last legs so will not be putting out factory figures 11 years later. It has a Gtec 1 fitted also (set @1 bar boost) so I guess this adds another 15 hp to the mix at this boost setting. Would never expect my power figure to be 260 or anywhere near it.

Everyone else with a GTECH1 does though mate. Why are you only running at 1 bar BTW ?

I decided 1 bar is enough as I am getting slight smoking on cold start which could be first signs of turbo wear and could be made worse a lot quicker, setting the boost to 1.2 tbh. Anyway, even with the manual bleed valve set to 1 bar, there is still slight overboosting/spiking occasionally to 1.1 bar, good enough for me at the moment.
