To do it properly I reckon 4k+ for bits + labour and anything else that might crop up along the way.

A quick list

Pistons, rods, gaskets, head bolts, oil pump, water pump, new belts. Then you go into.. head work, turbo, downpipe, exhaust, intercooler, injectors, remaps etc etc

The list is endless really, depends how much you want to spend.

but is hard to do the oil pump etc with the belts on so new belts needed and the engine is out so you do the clutch and the belts anyway.

Id say closer to 7-8k for a decent rebuild trust me I'm going through it at the moment. You never know how many bits you need until you start then when you start you don't stop just like pringles! There are so many little bits you just don't think of.

and therein lies your biggest problem as it seems no two people who do these things agree on much and from what i can gather there are a few things you must avoid, regrinding the crank being the biggest no..
if you do this (as i am at the moment) find out as much as you can rather than just trusting it to the first people that say they can do it..there are a number i know of already that have not gone well or lasted as they should..also choice of pistons and rods should be thought out along with compression ratio...these things need to be taylored to what you want to achieve from the car..as mentioned above you will likely incurr expenses you are not aware of initially (unless of course you have done one before) my biggest piece of advice would be do your homework and find someone that knows the cars and who is prepared to do it to a tight spec rather than a price..good luck

Just had a forged rebuild done by Johnnybravoturbo, engine rebored and built by SEP of Kegworth. This included new belts, 6 paddle clutch, balancer shaft removed, bottom end fully balanced. Cost was well under 4k including parts and a new turbo and fmic. I can recommened JBT, great service and kept me well informed. SEP sure do take their time though! Just running it in now, got it booked in at Fleas next Saturday.

KTM, about to not regrind the crank, that is something my mechanic stressed to me, because when I went to get the block rebored I went to get the crank polished up, as it had a few scratches, is the only way I can describe it, so just needed to buff them out if you like, but not to take anything away from it.

I went to Gosnays in Essex for that and the reboring, recommended by TurboJ and they done a cracking job. When I told Roger at PowerItalia this is where I went to, to do the job (one day when we were having a chat about something) he praised how good they were to. Not the cheapest, but definately up there with the best.

Joe, you sound like your doing what I done, forged rebuild, running in, then off to see Flea @ FC Performance!
Good luck, look forward to seeing your results!

What turbocharger have you got on the coupe?

technics, i've just gone with a power italia stage1 hybrid. I'm not looking for mental power just something noticeably quicker than standard without compromising day to day driveability. Hoping for around 300bhp.

You could get that with a stage 2 though and without forge Joe....why the expense mate ?
I thought a standard engine (with a few mods) was good for up to 350 ?

joe just a thought i know you now have lower comp than standard now so i would have thought a bigger turbo would be a better option you can always ask lieghton to hold back a little or run less boost.. to me (who admittedly knows little) i would have thought lowering the comp then using a relatively small turbo would not make a massive difference over standard i will be really interested to see the results dont get me wrong i hope you get what you are after ,i'm sure lieghton will help you get the best from it ..if i am wrong in my thinking can someone tell me why

Rob4848, just thinking mate, there is abit of chat on my forged rebuild cocts in my mapping thread on Fleas "FC Performance" section in the traders part of the forum.

Look for "381bhp Ultimate", and have a read about costs.

Spit, I bought the car pretty cheap with a knackered engine with a few nice mods and thought I'd rebuild it, the idea being I'd then have a clean slate and a healthy engine to mod as I like.

KTM, I hope you're wrong! I'll post the results up when I've been to Fleas next Saturday.

i hope i'm wrong also mate... but for me if this looked poss or even likely ,rather than spend on a map then have to buy a bigger one ,then have another map! i would have thought it best to fit a bigger one now ..i have bought a 20vt with a snapped belt and i know it has some kind of uprated turbo, i will try and collect it in the week if the turbo's going to give more than yours i will take yours as a trade in.. if you like.. as it was one i was buying to put on the engine going into my red car at johns.. someone wants it at 2.5k after all the work and money gone into i don't really want to sell her but if i am spending a lot on a forged build and am sort of building it to my ultimate spec , i want it to go into a special car.. a nice le or plus so at least it will have some worth when done..i have to put another motor in to the red and put a hybrid on for the new owner but as i say if yours looks like it will need a little more and the one on the scrapper will do that.. then you can trade it along with the exhaust and my stainless at johns can go on the red one when done..what do you think mate?

KTM, I seem to read alot of your posts and we have spoken on alot of threads together.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but you need to press the enter button a few times when you post as its sometimes hard to read a long one with no gaps and new lines in. wink

Until now, I spent 8000 euros for parts.. I reckon some 2000 more for car to be road&track-days ready. Aprox hp is 450.

Cheers.
