Hi all,

What are these called that the door lock sits into. (number 2 in pic)

http://i791.photobucket.com/albums/yy195/moonstonegrey/EDL1of2.jpg

I want to get it sorted, as you can see there is come corrosion on there (on both sides)
I've raked the how to's section but it didn't throw up anything. I was looking for a way to remove them and get them resprayed.
The other problem is (number 1 in pic) Obviously that would also have to be done else they would end up different colours, as age has turned it a shade of grey frown

Hoping it won't have to go into a shop to be done!

Has anyone seen a 'how to' on this or know any techniques?

cheers mart

Number 1 is the B pillar, there is a guide on how to remove and refurb (I think)

Number 2 is the door lock, you'll need to look in the workshop for how to remove, but it's easy enough.

Excellent, I'll break out the monocle and go over it smile thanks for that.

I still haven't found the how to's on it, onwards and upwards

To remove the B pillar cover you need to remove most of the interior in the back of the car. It's a bit of a pain really. I think there is a "how to" for installing rear speakers which explains how to remove the necessary trim. Then it's easy enough to access the nuts that hold the B pillar cover in place. Just make sure you don't damage the rear 3/4 panel when you remove it like I did laugh

that sounds like a job and a half!
Do you rekon it could be done without taking it off in the first place? Not ideal I know and wouldn't want to do it if it looked like half a job!
I'm just begining to get hands on with my coop and don't think i'd have the confidence to do a job like that, not yet anyway smile

Still got to do the lock housings but that's a much easier job so i've been told.

It can be done in situ, but the badges get in the way. And if you try and pull them off you'll snap the locating pins off the back of the badge. I seem to recall reading a thread on here recently where someone (possibly Patch?) painted their B pillars in situ after rubbing a bit of fairy liquid on the badge before spraying.

Here's the link, click

Scroll down a few posts and you'll find a step by step guide to spraying B pillars in situ by Patch

Ive done the B pillars without removal, just covered the badges with clag (or any kind of kiddies glue/paste)...simply peels off after the paintwork dries.

There is a very good how to for getting the pillars off, i ran into a few problems with rusty bolts and fat fingers but it still only took a long afternoon with a few simple tools and i think it was well worth it.
