By another car, I mean non-supercar.

Who here has had a Coupe, sold it and never looked back?

I personally can't think of any car that could take the Coupe's place! I've considered loads of replacement cars but everyone fails on one or more of these 4 points: looks, sound, interior and soul.

Does this mean I have to keep my Coupe forever and/or keep buying Coupes forever? laugh

I started off with a coupe and then thought I needed a change.
Then went jap for a few.....Mr2T and a skyline.
Then came to my senses,I thought and got a golf gtiT...the slowest car I have owned and in one word...Boring!
Then a scooby until I honestly realised, the coupe was by far the best car I had owned....so back I came.
Try other things but you normally come back to what you know.

People change and move on? priority's change as well as desposible income. For its price point the coupe is well well up there.

If I had more money I would love a z4, 350z new evo......

But I dont, So I have a coupe, its about the best I can get with the money I have

I had two and loved them both. Great cars in their day but there are fewer and fewer good ones knocking about - and most that are are owned by people on here.

Of course it can be replaced. People were paying £12k for three and four-year-old Pluses seven or so years ago - now they're around £4k. But prices of other cars come down accordingly, so cars some Coupe owners may be tempted by next (350z, M3, 147GTA and Boxster S spring to mind) will be even more appealing soon financially.

Other people move on (says me, still hanging around on here rolleyes :D). Times changed and I got an itch that needed scratching for something else, and I don't regret selling for a second. I wouldn't buy another Coop even though I see plenty for sale on here which look great value.

But if you're happy with your Coop and can't see anything else that floats your boat, good luck to you! Nothing to feel guilty about.

I have had 2, a std and a 300 bhp, and since selling them I have had numerous car, I have had a 147 2.0, a GT V6, a 350z, Focus ST, currently a Megane R26, and I don't doubt something else before the year ends. And in my opinion some of these cars are an equal to the coupe, but thats my opinion and depends on how you compare them smile

I really liked the coops and still do, but I won't buy another one, but as Roly says, if you are happy with your coop, why worry. There are better cars out there, there are equivalent cars out there and there are worse cars out there, so drive what you want smile

For the money...not alot can touch the coupe. If i had more money i would buy a Maseratti 3200(because the lights are nicer than the 4200 and surprisingly affordable too)
Thats about the only car i can think of which would get the looks, give you the same smile on your face when driving it, looks nice, sounds nice, is quirky, different, nice to be in...the list goes on! Something about Italian cars laugh
I'm saving for my 4th Coupe too, i will be back!

Nothing could compare to the coop. For me it's a driving experience that has something more than the usual. I simply just love it.

There's few cars for the money, if any that can extend your penis quite as far as the coop manages to do.

When mine goes I'm going to replace it with a vagina.

I'll be moving to a TVR Chimera next (a year or two away). That'll have the coupe licked in most departments if I'm honest. As far as I see it, the coupe is the best I can currently afford (as per Sams post) but it doesnt mean its the be all and end all.

It's just a fantastic car sub 7k but there are many, many others that I would pick if I had the money.

i think we all know there are better cars out there but for me the point is ..what sub 4k car goes as well?.. mines 350+ and wouldnt owe me more than 4 but for the new belt and paddle clutch,eibachs,avcr.. i have just had fitted...its a real looker as well ok your scoobies and skylines supras legnums mr2ts go well some look ok some handle ok but as a whole none have the style the interior or the driving experience even of the coupe...however the new 350z big horsepower thing i would have or the new tvr or even a tuscan but i have kids and not much money to have sat in a play car (which mine is)..we can all get in in reasonable comfort and mine particularly turns heads everywhere (youd have to see it) the other sub 4k cars dont

Nothing will ever replace my Coupe smile

I'd love to buy other nice cars, in addition to the Coupe, but I wouldn't replace it.

It cant be replaced by another car because it is completely unique.

There are loads of other cars which when all the + and - points are added up are equally as good as the Coupe.

The thing is for most people on here, we dont mind the Coupes drawbacks, which of course is why we bought one in the first place and consider them superior to all the competition.

I didnt care that it cost more than twice as much to run as my MX-5 now does and that the handling is in a completely different league on the MX-5. I didnt care that the ride quality and comfort was incomparable to the BMW 750i that I had recently, nor that the closest garage I could trust to do a good job on it was over 2 hours drive away.

I'd have it back in an instant though.

You're all missing the point.

"Best" is an entirely subjective judgement. Best for me may well not be best for you. The fact that you're driving a coupe indicates that *when you bought it* you considered it the 'best' car available to you.

The fact is that there are others with faster to speeds, better turning circles, more perceived prestige, better reliability... and they're all red herrings. The only car which can replace a coupe is another coupe. If you prefer something different, by something different.

Why all this angst? It's not difficult.

I am glad I bought the car I did, and I see it as an improvement over the Coupé in most respects - the only downside being the lack of Italian styling and flair.

But whilst I don't regret the change, I actually still miss my Fiat Coupé (s!) and I do believe I'll own another one day.. and maybe not in the too distant future smile

To buy a replacement car which ticks ALL the same boxes as the Coupé, but still offers an improvement in all (or most) respects, you're talking at least £10k, and even then probably with compromises. Style, rareness, performance, sound, 4 seat practicality, and character are very difficult to obtain in one vehicle.

For me, the best direct replacement for the Coupé for under £15k is the Maserati 3200gt. Completely imo of course smile

bliIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIInkers.

read the first post, no others.

I loved my coupe, and if my budget was sub £5k I'd get another in an instant. However the BMW delivered on levels the coupe couldnt, I didnt realise the difference until I went back and drove a coupe, it was a time timewarp like and a comedy experience in some ways. Ok nothing really will do EVERYTHING the coupe does the way you like it now, but usually it will do some many things better than you forgive the one thing it doesn't.

The only thing I miss about my coupe is the noise in tunnels. The BM with sound foam removed sounds utterly great but only from inside the cabin.

Ive had numerous exotics, even double the price of my current coupe. 5 bmws from 325 Msport coupe and 328 cabrio to the 850 v12, Mustang convertible, Jap sport coupes, a +400bhp Saab 9-3 Aero.etc. The 300 hp Alfa GTV V6 Turbo was one of my first rides dropping the eyes of my high school schoolmates and even teachers(plus being the closest thing to a ferrari that a schoolboy could afford wink ) and here I am back in my coupe. Needless to say I cant mention another car delivering the same soul as my coupe. I drove my friends Evo9 today and realised that my Coupe is better and faster every other way than 0-60 especially on gravel and all other conditions requiring the four wheel drive.. Needless to say that the looks are stunning and people dont turn their heads the same way in a more boring car. Ordinary people get seriously knocked off thinking its somekind of a supercar(And it is closest thing of one too, with the pricetag) laugh

When I get the cash someday in a few years when the mortgage is partly paid, I would imagine buying the 3200 Maserati someone mentioned above, It would be a perfect follower for the coop, even though the maintenance costs would increase too.
Because using my car as a daily driver at work, I was almost changing my coop to a Mercedes SLK 320 compressor or a Porsche boxster(Second hand +5 year old ones) but both of them are A:Slower, B:Duller, C:Not as fantastic rides as the coop is. So for now Im going enjoy mine until other opportunities arise.

My FTO comes close, but there's something about the coupe that just scares you, it's the fear factor, not jsut the speed, but the way it delivers it, exponential accleration and the fact that it could dump you head or bum first into a hedge with the torque steer. There's also it's ability to be forever broken, you never know if it'll start or if it'll stop once it has. And when it does go wrong even if it's something major she'll still keep ploding along, dash lit up like a christmas tree, gears left in a trail behind you, blue smoke pouring from the exhaust yet you'll still drive her that 100 miles in magic third to the fiat specialist to have her fixed.

But the best thing is the interior... I canot think of ANY car in the WORLD that has a nicer interior, the dash is exquisit, even if i woke up every morning and drove to work in a bugatti vayron, tenderly caressing the magnesium alloy indicator stalk i'd still be thinking... "could I make this look more like a fiat coupé?"

Surely this is a bit blinkered?

If there was no replacement for the Coupe then there would be none for sale. In my time here a lot of people have come and gone… mostly to Jap stuff – need all their opinions really!

I would say the same about a 106GTI I had, at the time it was new, quick, fantastic around corners, it was great and I thought irreplaceable, but there was a quicker better around corners car out there. I’d love another 106, but I’m not 18 anymore.

I do think that you are over emphasising on the good points and missing the bad points as shabba said, plenty of different cars out there. I have thought a few times about selling up the Coupe and I have to agree, what do you progress too. For me personally the things I love about the Coupe are the engine, the sound, its good round corners, tuneable, mostly reliable, it has a nice interior, but then it’s not rwd so inevitably not as exciting to drive as it might be, the chassis is soft and flexible, I don’t really like the gear change, they look awful without a bit of a bodykit, interior really isn’t a deciding factor on a car for me, and there are many as-nice sounding engines out there, VW V6? Tuned Rotary?

Just my opinion though! smile

For the time I've been on this forum, this question has been asked on a few occasions, & will never be answered in the sense that any other one car will fit the bill. As pointed out by others, we will all move on to something else eventually, but the coop will have a place in each & one of our hearts. It's just that kind of car.

That said, price does have a big part to play, this has been pointed out on many occasions as well. Apart from the few who purchased the coop new or nearly new, having a relatively fast comfortable sports car for little money was/is a major factor when buying a coop.

It has to be said, if you're one of the young guys in the know about the coop & can afford the insurance, well need I say more wink

I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time
