Hi All

I have a 16vt Coupe and a spare standard T3 turbo.

I am looking to upgrade the engine to around 300bhp with supporting mods and I was going to get this turbo re-worked so it can get me there.

I will be doing the turbo rebuild myself but I am lost when it comes to what trim wheels and what size housings to use.

I have found people on the net supplying various parts but there is very little info and I dont want to go buying a load of useless parts.

Can someone offer me some advice on what to get please?

Cheers Rich

Hi

Thanks for replying. I found those posts and read them quite a few times to try and undestand but it does not list the parts required to make the turbo it just says what the complete turbo is known as.

I could just send it to a turbo specialist and tell them my car spec and let them do the rest but I wanted to create something myself.

If someone could list the parts required to make a 16vt 300bhp approx turbo using a T3 turbine housing I would be very greatful.

Cheers Rich.

Generally you should complite all the mods from "stage 1" as "Saint" wrote + stronger head gasket (spesso/cometic) and then you should install the new turbo (your choice), afterwards go for a remap/chip so all components can work together perfectly smile
i would recommand you to add EGT gauge as well, take in mind that maybe u'll need new clutch if yours slipping and maybe bigger injectors too since the 384cc will be on the top edge with 300hp.
must change the downpipe to bigger inch also since the original one will "choke" your car at around 240-250hp.

of course you can install the turbo first but that will give you an headache without the supporting mods

Who thought that adding an extra 100hp in turbo car will be so expansive :))

I already have 440cc injectors, fmic, Decat, uptated exhaust, boost controller, chip, 3 bar fpr and bigger turbo outlet.

I need to know what turbo internals and housings to buy to make a turbo that will get me to 300bhp.

Well we can do them both together but I thought you said you are happy with 250bhp.

I got a price for the pipework and altogether its going to be about £200 as long as we can use both our air filters.

You still up for it next weekend then?

Game on matey! 250's just not going be enough once I've been out in your 300bhp jobby lol!

Saying that I've gotta save up for a bigger turbo first and foremost.

Well if I can find out the details of what we need turbo wise to get to 300bhp you could buy an old unit and we both do yours afterwards.

Sounds cracking matey if you feel up to rebuilding a turbo unit? Sounds like brain surgery to me.

Also if the intercooler piping's going come to £200 odd why not just buy this whole kit http://www.fiatcoupeclub.org/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1025061&page=1

Because as the post says:

"The kit is universal kit so mods are needed to fit (its not a straight fit) the coupe but the kit does fit, we've sold a lot of these for coupe"

Plus I wanted to do it myself and use an evo6 intercooler.

You know me mate, I will have a go at anything lol!

Saint uses a Stage 2 T3 / To4E 50 trim. I would use the same.

The parts you need are

Stage 2 turbine shaft (turbine requires machining to fit)
50 Trim, to4E compressor wheel, top hat, backplate etc
T3 rebuild kit with race bearings.

All of that will probably cost more than a new turbo if you have to buy it new.

If you want to find part numbers for internals (e.g. compressor wheel from turbo x) then this site and this one are very useful.

I bought parts from RadDesigns/TurboRebuild who seem to be able to supply most parts and were very helpful when I rebuilt mine.

I somehow manged to post this in the wrong thread!

The answer to your question:

I bought my T04E comp from a turbo parts seller on Ebay but he's not registered any more.

You need:
comp
comp housing
backplate
rubber o-ring to fit between the comp housing and backplate

Also, the comp's nose needs to be machined down to fit the shorter t3 turbine spindle.

Send the comp, turbine and the nut that bolts them together all off to be balanced

Buy a rebuild kit and rebuild the rest of the turbo too while it's apart. Fit a 360 deg thrust bearing. and Voila 300+ turbo for less than some people spend on an intercooler.

Both of these threads have info very useful to you:

So this is what I need then?

Standard Coupe T3 turbine housing
Standard Coupe T3 turbine wheel
Standard Coupe T3 shaft
360 thrust bearing
T3 rebuild kit

T04e comprressor housing
T04e compressor wheel
T04e backplate.

Are these all the parts I need?

What trim T04e compressor wheel?

What T04e housing?

Cheers Rich

If you are only interested in a list of parts that could work then yes go with the above. However there really is 100 different ways to do this and no set rules. One turbo builder may build this turbo different to the next. There are so many different options depending on what you want. You really need to know what you want and ask the right questions.

50 trim compressor wheel is a good one, I would use that. You need a 50 trim compressor housing to go with the compressor wheel of course. An anti surge housing will be a good idea if you want to use the stock turbine.

Stock turbine wheel and shaft is the same thing. I would have the turbine backcut or use a stage 2 etc or it may spool up too fast.
