Spring rates available for FK coilover (rear) #1026481

Just trying to sort out the rear suspension on my car.

What spring weight are available for the FK kit? Having seen how compressed the spring are with the car up on a ramp I'm looking at getting either some heavier springs or some custom ones made up.

Any info appreciated.

Cheers
James

FK only made one spring for the rear of the coupe as have all the major spring manufactuers.
If you want to up the rate of the spring you will either want to talk to Balance Motorsport who make a race spring for the coupe or go down the coilover style rear spring conversion route so you can choose from whatever spring rate you like.

Cheers Jimbo,

By coilover style conversion, do you mean just the adjustable platform? If so I've already got that.

I think I've heard it was available with different spring rates? If they do one that's anywhere near what I'm after then I'd try to find a set, if not I'll get some made up.

No, the rear has an adjustable spring platform for a standard style spring, I mean convert it to a 60mm spring so you can select from the massive range of Eibach ERS springs to get the rate you want.

FK did various front spring rates but only one rear spring but to be honest, I wouldn't be using FKs in a track car really, they aren't up to the job for a road car never mind putting them on the track.

Think the easiest thing will be to get some custom springs made up to fit with the exact spring weight I'm after for the rear.

Fronts seem fine, if they're not up to the task I'll have to work something out.

The fronts came across as being under damped, it would lead to bouncing around almost to the point of loss of control. FK's cure for this was to fit a much harder spring so the damper is no longer working as a damper.

Is this going to be a road car or track car ?

cheers for the advice jimbo, i'll give them a go and see what happens.

Are there any other coilovers available for the narrower 16v uprights or would it be a case of rebuilding the front end with turbo parts?

I believe the dampers are the same spec, it's just the mounting holes for the hub that differ between 16vt and 20vt.

Lots of options available for the coupe now, KW, Gaz, K2, Leda, HotBits to name a few of the better ones.
It's a shame FK skimped on the damper inserts as the stainless steel damper bodies are very nice quality. Maybe there's a good quality insert out there that will fit ? I know Koni made an insert for the FK coilover.

In the end I think the only thing to do will be to take the car to somewhere like Gaz (if they're willing!) and get them to adapt a kit to fit the weight and characteristics of the car.

I'm currently doing a bit of digging into how proper Integrales are set up and comparing that with the Coupe.

For now the FKs will have to stay upfront, and I'll just be sorting out the rear end - other things that need the money.

The trouble with the coupes rear suspension is the spring shape, it would have to be specially made and so probably be pricey.

It may be worth going for a bespoke full coilover at the rear instead of seperate damper and spring.
Leda are great dampers and will make a bespoke coilover, I'm not sure if Gaz will cater for that ?
