I have bought my 2nd coupe last week, from a guy who bought it on auction just to get it fix and sell again. Before that car had only one owner Mr. Craig from Alexandria. Coupe is 20vt P-reg but registered in 2002(how is that possible?) Car came with no history – that’s one of the reasons i would like to have conversation with Mr. Craig! So if anyone knows him or maybe he is even a forum member i would appreciate a PM !

Some pictures of the car:

no problems mate, I just want to get access to the service history. Yeah, the car is lovely and you can tell its been well-looked after. The only issue was the CAT C damage to the rear. But its been sorted now. Cheers for interest.

Maybe imported from ireland. You'll get a plate based on year of manufacture. You can get a printout from dvla for a fiver that will give you his address at time he owned it.

I thought the plate related to year of registration rather then manufacture ?
These two dates can be quite different.

Sorry, yes meant registration. If you import a used car to the UK you have to state the date that the car was first used/registered and this determines your plate, although your reg doc will show 'date of registration' as the date you register it with the dvla. You'll get an extra marker on the V5 to say something like 'Previously used 1997'. Can't remember actual wording but I've had 2 imports (quite by chance!)

Forgot to say that the count of previous owners on the reg doc is unlikely to include owners prior to import. So my last coup said 6 owners on the V5 but when I looked into it I found it had at least 2 in Northern Ireland too, and that it came to Scotland with 50K on the clock.

My v5 just arrived today and it says:

first registered in 2002
and the second line says first registered in uk in 2002

so that means its not imported? and if yes why its P-reg then. I think i will have to go to DVLA office today wink
