Hi guys, im sure i saw a post a long time about this but cant find it.
Was just curious as to how many people have eeked more than 350hp out of std rods and pistons and people's experience's.
Sorry if it has been covered before.

I think someone on here has about 360bhp on standard internals. Look in the FC Performance section, tells you all the cars power, bhp, torque and specs.
Now in the 400+ bhp club!

I run 352bhp on standard internals, i think KTM450 runs 358bhp.
Watz is running 396bhp on standard internals, and matty was running circa 430bhp - but it blew up!

Jeez 430hp! no wonder it blew up! Think that is stretching it a bit, what about Watz's 396hp, how long has it lasted and what turbo is he using at how much boos?, gt3071/gt2871?
Cheers

Would it not be better to stick to say 300 and have a safe engine that is not going to go "pop" anytime soon ? I would say a Jap engine would be do able but not an Italian jobby. Just a thought.

I think a skyline engine is just a bit stronger than a fiat block......standard.

Why would you say that? IIRC the SR20DET maxes out around the same sort of power eg ~350bhp. Nah, people have pushed well over 400bhp with stock internals on the SR. I did 383bhp@hubs on a stock, very tired 1.8 CA18DET. It's all about the mapping

Yeah, he's a top bloke too. Keeps well away from all the tuner-bashing & dick-swinging normally associated with the Jap tuning 'scene' (God, I hate that word)

Skyline GTST RB25DET DOHC turbo I6 This is 250 standard....put a decat and an AM air filter and you are talking well over 270. If you have ever owned one,you would know that this engine is pure bullet proof.....no matter what you throw at it. The same cannot be said of the 20vt. I love the coupe but we have to be honest here.

That's a 2.5 straight six mate, not really fair to compare them.

4G63 = One of the greatest engines ever created. Then again, so was the Cosworth YB back in the day.
You've got to understand that the R&D lavished on the Nissan RB & SR lumps, as well as the Mitsu 4G63, Toyota 1JZ & Honda VTec y0 engines is light years ahead of the that invested in the 20VT engine.
The 20VT engine is in the Fiat Coupe and what else...? The RB lumps were bullet-proof 500+bhp JTCC Godzirras back in the late 80's. Just not comparable in my eyes. I bet the 20VT is good for silly power if you get the right people working on it...

What the hell are we talking about jap motors for, got nothing to do with what this thread is about.
If you want to slag off the 20vt lump, bugger off elsewhere.

I got 358 HP on the last run. Jari (from Finland) got 408 HP. The air is, apparently, much better in Finland than rest of Europe The 358 you got, was that using a gtec 2 aswell? Seems an awful lot to expect from a generic chip, i wonder how much it would kick out if it was fully mapped? Jari's car is 408hp then, what spec is he running, i'm just interested in what sort of turbo and A/R if you know? How many miles has it lasted? Cheers Davie

Must admit the thought of mega power does not interest me so much. Here is my reasoning
well im running 300bhp and in my humble opinion the car is very well balanced, and feels very fast. She has a hybred turbo so spools early with good breathing modifications. The car has lots of usable power, having decent brakes and a full suspension kit, strut brace and new wishbones, drop links, track rod ends. anything other than motorway use I think the extra power would not be hugely noticable and be at the cost of low down pick up. I must admit I would not even consider extra power all efforts now are on improving handling further with camber bolts and lower strut brace as this in my opinion is far more important.

A live map would certainly be much better. My spec here: http://www.torquestats.com/Freddan72Jari's here: http://www.torquestats.com/Jari

Good response Davie, and I must however admit. I do every now and then, sometimes wonder, what would more power feel like. At the moment though it is under control and has not yet manifested into an itch

I thought torque is the limiting factor (and the cause of bent rods)? So a god "linear" live map, without a huge mid-range "bulge", could enable big top-end power?
Or the std. pistons melt on high bhp engines, regardless of the torque, due to big temperatures produced burning a lot of fuel, needed for big bhp?
