Ok... coat

Does anyone know if there are any health risks involved with baking wrinkle paint in a home oven?

i thought about that and a heat lamp but it wont be even and doesnt it need to heat the rocker cover through to evenly cure the paint?

im not worried about that! Im worried about the oven becoming contaminated and killing my house mate when he later cooks his chips and pies in it...

Meh itl be fine, most ovens have some sort of extraction system anyway, so I'm sure the harmful gases etc (of there is any) would be removed before the ovens next use wink

and dont worry about your mate, your oven will not kill him...

when you do this id start by letting dry on a low heat first 30 degrees and then crank up the heat if needed. Is this paint specifically designed to be dried at high temp? As otherwise it could cure too fast and react (crack) unless dried as suggested.

back on topic cant see it doing any harm, oven cleaner is not exactly good stuff to be consumed either.
or you could always as said give it a clean afterwards.

pre-heat the oven then bake, use a foam action oven cleaner after use, this also cleans brake dust on wheels very well

LOL at proccy!!

Also, Proccy, it was a classic moment, me, Mario & Nick went out and got HAMMERED, fell asleep on SEPORATE sofa's and got awakened by king Kong coming down the stairs to leave!!

god she was large...nearly had to grease the walls so she could make it down without getting stuck!!

Back on topic... Mario, Pre heat the oven, stick it in, give it a go!!

worse case, Rub it down do it again until you get what you want from it!!!!

I im happy to come over to give you a hand, just put a good few coats of paint on it first and make sure its super clean before you apply any paint!

Unless you're lucky enough to have something wider than a standard 600mm oven then it won't fit in any case (I tried). I used a hairdryer on mine and to be honest even that was too quick - esp this weather. Once it's dry and back on then the engine heat will cure it. Just don't let the hairdryer cable accidentally touch the wet paint like I did. Doh! If you look close you can still see the mark dead centre.

Same stuff as Mario's link, but I got mine from the Frost website http://www.frost.co.uk. One can of 310ml is easily enough to do a cover. I don't think you have to but I primed 1st with Upol acid etch #8. And also used liquid masking tape for the letters and then really really carefully cut the wrinkle off the letters with stanley blade - came off clean and reduced need for any real sanding. More luck than judgement but overall dead easy.

Honda guides probably the best one I've seen.

Ahh...very good point. It was done a week before Brooklands so not much of a test. After applying the paint left it for about an hour to form a "skin" then a minute with a low heat hairdryer then it was left off for the weekend and then went back on. Still looks ok, but sorry hardly much of a test.

p.s. to be honest I get the impression that the wrinkle paint isn't the most durable. No chips or flakes yet, but the condition of the original (I'm assuming) albeit 12 years old was pretty dire and not a lot of it left on beforehand.

My wrinkle paint has been very durable. I placed mine in the sun to crinkle, on a hot day, worked a treat.
