Hi,
Tonight, I'll be looking at a Black 20VT advertised on eBay.
Here's the link:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1997-FIAT-COUPE-20...1QQcmdZViewItem

Has anybody owned this car at some point (apparently it's had 6 owners), or know anything about it?

Seems like a good price...

Thanks..

Also ask for proof to show that that the cambelt has been changed

The link in his advert shows the oil pressure idling at below 1 bar, isn't this a bit low

Ex 20VT - now something far more sensible'ish... smile

Well spotted, and even at 3000rpm the pic on the right is not at 3 bar.

All,
Thanks for your responses. I'd check on here more regularly, but have to work at some point..

David C,
Red one at Mainprice. I rang the guy, and he won't negioate on price at all. I would pay 3700 maybe for a really good one, for 3995 is overpriced IMHO, though this is a controversial issue and everyone has their view. I use parkers as my price guide for cars. Coupes are rarer so the main dealer price is fair enough, even for ones for sale privately. But even that is not 3995. Also, theirs three red one's for much less on autotrader one for 3450 (which OK has sold), another around the same price (3400ish) (I've emailed the guy, and he hasn't replied), and one for 3250 o.n.o....

Regarding the Black Ink one. Went for a test drive, very enjoyable. Cambelt has been changed once, receipts etc avaliable. However, the mileage and age: I would expect it needs another cambelt soon: however I can live with that.
(I'm looking for a post I saw before on here about how many miles/years the cambelt should be changed at)..

OK, I'm quite new at this...So you are saying the oil pressure is low? Do you know what that could indicate? Or is the answer 'all kinds of things'?

I'm seriosly considering this one: but that oil pressure thing is a bit of a worry (as is the lack of a RED key, although someone posted he's never had one and didn't make much difference to his life).

We went for a fast test drive. Did not hear any strange noises, seemed to pull very nicely, everything seemed fine BUT...Oil Pressure hmmm. Would a compression test help with this? Or is there anything I can do to see what the problem would be??

It was probably me that commented on the red key; I've had the battery out of my coupe for a week and I still didn't need the red key when I re-installed it a week later.
I do think that just under 1 bar of oil pressure is a little under, I'm sure I read Rog posting that an engine is usually due a re-haul at this point

Coopless!

The usual centre console buttons pushed in too!!
Engine bay looks really grubby too.
Otherwise not a bad looking coop.

Hi,
Have had a search under 'Oil' and 'Rog' but could not find these posts. Anyone who can find them: would be grateful..

(see here http://fiat.arisia-web.co.uk/ for the next bit!)
To me it seems 'a bit' low, not sure if it's a big issue the one on the right is between 2.5 bars and 3. Can't see the needle on the one on the left. To be fair it's quite high mileage, and would you expect it to be perfect???

Dirty engine bay, can always clean it or keep the bonnet closed:-)

I guess, what do you expect for £2800?

If the oil level is topped up correctly I'd seek advice mate, doesnt sound good at all otherwise See Rogs comment here

I've asked Keith for auto integrale to see if he'll come out and have a look at it with me.
Be a shame to miss out on an essentially good car just because the oil wasn't topped up :-)

On the other hand, if this indicates a serious problem maybe it's best to steer clear...but if Keith comes out with me that - he's the expert so I'll see what he says.

I currently have lower than normal oil pressure cos my turbo's on its way out, and it can idle at 1.5 bar (when very hot, ie sitting in traffic). When I took it to Rog he told me to literally turn the engine off if it got to 1.25 bar..

Personally I am taking strong note of that and would definitely not buy a car that is idling at 1 bar. Even if it's not indicating a major problem, how has the owner looked after it?

It is the right colour though

Is that an easy problem to fix?

Stup,
Yup, I think taking your advice is the plan.
I'd sooner pay an extra grand (say 3800 or so) and get one with better oil pressure..
It's probably sold now anyway. It did make me want one even more! And no, it's not really the right colour (and had been mod'd enough to increase my insurance by 200 quid!)

You're in the right position as the buyer, there'll be enough choice to get a good one

Don't understand what you mean about it not being the right colour though Ink Black's the best
