Hmmm...

Apexi which most use.

Ripspeed which essentially looks the same but can be bought with a chrome surround or carbon so its heat protected.

Pipercross Viper system which looks awesome and again offers greater protection.

Everyone uses Apexi but wondered if people had looked at other options?

Best intake would be a sip with a k&n/apexi filter. Fmic needed of course.

By who, and for what reason?

Those stories about them screwing your MAF are a load of poop, and I re-oiled mine.

Sip can give you a rough idle and cut out and not something I would like ideally frown

K&N is oiled..

Over oil it and you will kill your MAF.

Coupe now sold!

It will kill the MAF if you put oil on the INSIDE like a numpty. If you over oil the outside it will just drip off, wont cause any harm.

Bad move as I said before but entirely up to you.

The Coupe won't be able to draw enough air in via that primitive system.

It's all good for N/A, no good for turbo AFAIK!

bit of a hijack, but it ties in.....

is there a induction kit you can fit to a SIP that doesn't sound like Darth Vader on heat?

replaced my drilled air box with a standard one as I hated the noise, is this unavoidable with an induction kit?

Was thinking of K&N myself.

Have a Neuspeed on my VR6 and it sounds unreal (off topic).

Really? Looking at the engine layout i'd have thought the Coop would pick up the air better if i put the cold air pipe tucked right behind the grill?? Might just leave it then and sell the Viper on.

Air filters are all much of a muchness. Just get one that fits, as long as its not one of those stupid steel mesh tea strainers.

I hate the fact Viper kits and such sucker people into paying £200-odd for some sponge or cotton, some foil ducting and a maybe bit of cheap carbon fibre. That's, like £50 worth of stuff.

Just to bring this back up.

I've had a good search but can't seem to find a definitive answer.....

I'd like to fit an induction kit when I finally fit my SIP & FMIC to increase power but....

When I tried drilling my airbox before the suction noise annoyed me too much as it drowned out the exhaust roar.

I know most people use Apexi but is there a filter that will give better breathing without the overly loud suction noise?

Or is that just wishful thinking?

cheers

Paul

ps I have have a race-catted full length Blueflame so the exhaust is louder than before cool

I've got a K&N 57i and occasionally I've had to clean the MAF with electrical contact cleaner to eliminate kangarooing. A bit of oil vapour get's through I think; but surely any oiled filter will do that. Other than that it's very good, but you need the biggest you can get.

However it did work really well!

But he's looking for something quiet, the K+N is probably the loudest one. I hate mine I can't wait to remove it.
