Hi all. I finished refurbishing my rocker cover today. What do you think? I'm very happy with it and will be experimenting with other colours soon. Great job bud that looks

VHT Crinkle Red 10£ on ebay works a treat I tried that place but I was waiting ages for postage so in the end I went to Frost to get it which cost more . I etch primed mine too so the paint shouldnt flake off in time.

vht shouldnt flake off anyway, the curing process is designed to cure it against the metal. Im always weary about using primer with VHT as if the primer expands or contracts at a different rate to the top coat you will get cracks. My VHT came within 2 days on ebay it was from a company in bedford? This is the company i used: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VHT-RED-WRINK...402?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SMPost up some pics once your done

The purpose of etch primer is to allow the paint to adhear to the "oily" aluminium. A thin layer of primer can only help to create good adheasion between the paint and the cover. The paint should not crack. It will only crack if the wrong primer is used or it has not been cured properly (too quickly).

do you have a link to the primer you purchased then... i may give it a go...
i appriciate thats the job of the primer, however im not sure how it will react under temperature... hence my comment above. Plus on all of the VHT products none of them mention using primer and suggest painting straight to metal...
Im not saying your way is wrong at all - i would be interested in giving it a try

I'm not saying you're wrong either I'm aware that on the can it says you can paint straight to metal but it also says that you should bake the cover for an hour when 30 mins will suffice. The primer I used is U-POL Acid #8 1k etch primer bought from my local motor factors. I might give it a go without primer and I'd expect to see no difference tbh.
