I will post tomorrow as i'm knackered now todays events of fitting the GT28RS

I just want to say thank you to Marco for his invaluble help in the dying hours of a saturday.
For finding me a spare banjo oil feed restrictor afer mine cracked and became useless.

Without his help I wouldn't have got it fitted.

its thanks to the forum that we know each other, which just proves how sucessful this forum and its members are/have been.

Story with pics to follow ...

ok so after a long day fitting the GT28RS, lesson learnt - nothing is ever straight forward, even with lots of preperation.

luckily for me, my mate convinced his boss to let us use his commercial garage/workshop after hours on saturday free of charge. This mean't we had all the tools and equipment, which I have no idea how anyone could do it without this.

The only deal was that when the garage re-opened on Monday morning that my car wouldn't still be there. Fair enough.

All the ramps were empty so there was plenty of room.

during the week, we had already removed some of the parts, ie. heat shield etc. and fitted the fuel mod just to try and get soem of the smaller tasks out of the way.

we removed the turbo which was fairly easy with the car above head height.

we then had to take some of the parts off the old turbo for use on the new turbo, ie water feed pipe and reurn pipes.
These had to be bent slightly to make them fit as they fouled against the housing of the new turbo.

My new turbo had a new custom made braded line oil feed pipe with anodised aluminium banjo bolt oil feed adapter.
What a piece of crap this turned out to be.
firstly it could of done with being an inch longer as where it connects to the engine block was akward enough.
We used new copper washers and put it all together.
We finished the install, checking and double checking everything on the way.

I started her up while the mechanic kept his eye on things. it all lasted about half a second before he started shouting turn it off!!!

we lifted the car back up to see oil pouring out of the banjo connection.
We took the pain in the arse banjo adapter out to be comfronted with this

anodised aluminium! what a piece of crap.

note to anyone that wants to do this mod.
MAKE SURE THAT YOU USE A STEEL ADAPTER.

it was about 6.30pm on saturday and all the shops were shut, my car was on the ramp and not going anywhere!

I put a call into my trusty friend Marco laugh who said, send me a picture, you may be in luck, i'll ring you back in a min.

10 minutes seemed like 10 hours and the mechanic went into a state of depression! lol.

Marco rang me back with the best news of the night, he managed to find one! not only that, it was a steel one laugh

We jumped in the astra and headed over to Bedofrd where Marco met us to do the deed. not to mention that it mean't that Marco would be late for work!
I really can't thank Marco enough.

We headed back to the garage and fitted the new adapter but oil kept slowly leaking out. slowly we kept re-fitting/tightening the adapter and wallah! sorted laugh

Relief all round.

we finished the install and took her out for a spin, making sure that we kept pullin over and checking everything.
all sorted.

This weeks task will be to fit the EBC and set the boost properly.

Then onto FLEA smile

its been (VERY) long coming, but i'm glad that we are finally on the home stretch for what I want.

Sounds like great fun!

What other supporting modifications have you made to your coop incidentally? Basildoncope has just had his GT28RS 0.86 fitted and mapped and he's now running near enough the same spec as me. Performance on the road is identical.

Good to see more of the old disco potato on here. Years back, this was the 'big one' but it seems to have been forgotten in the quest for MORE POWER. Even Fleas tubo comparison graph misses it out through lack of representation.

Hope it all turns out well for you smile

yeah I got SIP, Pipercross induction, Evo 6 FMIC, 3.8fpr, fuel mod, armval prv, power italia clutch to suit and cambelt has been done, HKS dump valve, 10g brakes with red pads, Gtec 2, de-cat etc.

I'm missing the 2.75" maybe 3" blumeflame exhaust which will really help, in fact thats next on the list before the re-map.

the sip install makes the filter sit right into the bumper, which i can't help think that its not getting enough cold air there so may move it or try to make the install shorter.

if i'm totally honest, I wouldn't say the whole thing has made my car that much quicker at present to the turbo I had with the Gtec 1.

I was really hoping for that pin me in my seat feeling that I used to get but its not quite there at the moment.
The boost used to run at 20 psi dropping off but now runs at about 15 psi so I know I can get mroe from the turbo if I needed.
When the EBC gets fitted this week I can have a proper play.

This will unlock most of the potential of the turbo. My GtiR made more power up to 4,000rpm and then the same until 6,000rpms. It appears that the stock exhaust simply can't flow anymore...

Won't make any difference. The engine doesn't need air speed to suck air in faster. It will do just fine wherever it sits.

Don't boot it until it's been mapped. Just don't even try. The fuelling WILL be all over the place and you'll melt the engine. Just be patient. I don't know what you were running before, but when it's all good, I'm sure you'll notice. It will make a LOT more power at the redline over ANY hybrid with the same set-up and you really can't venture into these rpms without a proper map.

Good things come to those who wait- GT28RS laugh

Its taken about 2 years to get this far, so i am in no hurry and can wait.

I sit constantly on the flea forum watching and learning.

When I was fitting the GTEC 2 I was un no illusion that this is nothing on the FLEA map.

As long as you have done the 3.8fpr and the fuel pump mod, you won't be running lean, also I booted mine and still do and not a problem and i'm very happy
