ok so after a long day fitting the GT28RS, lesson learnt - nothing is ever straight forward, even with lots of preperation.
luckily for me, my mate convinced his boss to let us use his commercial garage/workshop after hours on saturday free of charge. This mean't we had all the tools and equipment, which I have no idea how anyone could do it without this.
The only deal was that when the garage re-opened on Monday morning that my car wouldn't still be there. Fair enough.
All the ramps were empty so there was plenty of room.
during the week, we had already removed some of the parts, ie. heat shield etc. and fitted the fuel mod just to try and get soem of the smaller tasks out of the way.
we removed the turbo which was fairly easy with the car above head height.
we then had to take some of the parts off the old turbo for use on the new turbo, ie water feed pipe and reurn pipes.
These had to be bent slightly to make them fit as they fouled against the housing of the new turbo.
My new turbo had a new custom made braded line oil feed pipe with anodised aluminium banjo bolt oil feed adapter.
What a piece of crap this turned out to be.
firstly it could of done with being an inch longer as where it connects to the engine block was akward enough.
We used new copper washers and put it all together.
We finished the install, checking and double checking everything on the way.
I started her up while the mechanic kept his eye on things. it all lasted about half a second before he started shouting turn it off!!!
we lifted the car back up to see oil pouring out of the banjo connection.
We took the pain in the arse banjo adapter out to be comfronted with this
anodised aluminium! what a piece of crap.
note to anyone that wants to do this mod.
MAKE SURE THAT YOU USE A STEEL ADAPTER.
it was about 6.30pm on saturday and all the shops were shut, my car was on the ramp and not going anywhere!
I put a call into my trusty friend Marco
who said, send me a picture, you may be in luck, i'll ring you back in a min.
10 minutes seemed like 10 hours and the mechanic went into a state of depression! lol.
Marco rang me back with the best news of the night, he managed to find one! not only that, it was a steel one
We jumped in the astra and headed over to Bedofrd where Marco met us to do the deed. not to mention that it mean't that Marco would be late for work!
I really can't thank Marco enough.
We headed back to the garage and fitted the new adapter but oil kept slowly leaking out. slowly we kept re-fitting/tightening the adapter and wallah! sorted
Relief all round.
we finished the install and took her out for a spin, making sure that we kept pullin over and checking everything.
all sorted.
This weeks task will be to fit the EBC and set the boost properly.
Then onto FLEA
its been (VERY) long coming, but i'm glad that we are finally on the home stretch for what I want.
