Does anyone have any experience of vinyl wrapping? i have been thinking of vinyl wrapping body panels but have some stone chip damage. I assume that the vinyl would sink into the stone chips and look awful?

I think Valerie Singleton and John Noakes used to be good at doing this, and my wife's pretty good with books for school. But are you serious?

Yes, I am serious. Paintwork is a mess, cant afford a respray right now, so wrapping could be a cheaper alternative.

Dont worry, am not thinking of some crazy jap style anime wrap, just a whole wrap in a suitable colour

If its a coop which i asume it is you will encounter a problem, a big one literally.

They don't make vinyl sheet big enough to do the body as the roof, A pillars and rear quarter are 1 piece you will need to create a join or 2 the choices are:

1. Across the centre and shove a go faster stripe down the middle rofl

2. Better option, bottom of the roof (As if you were painting the roof black 200sx S13 style) then your choice to leave it or mask it.

If you have any other ideas let me know as this is why mine isn't wrapped.

I have been looking in to this alot.

It will cost about £250 for material, so not that cheap but could look good.

How about wrapping the roof separately? Imagine if you had two roof rails (like on most other cars) running from the corner of windscreen to the corner of the rear screen. Then wrap the a pillar, c pillar and rear three quarters in one go.

Where would you put the line, the top of the side rear windows don't "flow" to the rear screen.

I'd just have it running along the roof. You tend not to look at the roof really. It could be cut to follow the line of the side window but 10 cm further into the roof panel, if you can picture what I mean? Could look quite neat.

Not cheap mind you.

If full body vinyl wraps cost a couple of hundred pounds I'd get one done every six months.

Someone please tell me what the benefit of a vinyl wrap is?!?

It may be a temporary thing but you're still more or less paying respray prices!

No a full wrap cost about £1000

£250 is for materials.

It lasts about 3 years (still looking good) and protects your paint

A decent full wrap is well over £1000,
they look good and they will last the life of the car of its done properly.

Unique, and innovative as far as styling is concerned but i wouldn't have it done personally.

One idea I had would be to have the main body one colour, maybe standard (though it being Scotts Green am not sure it really fits well with other colours) and cover the roof, a pillar and c pillars in black, the black on the c pillar coming down to meet the swage line and looping under the rear quarter window in the style of the black vinyl that used to swoop around the rear quarter on a mk2 xr2. probably do the b pillar too so that the blacks match

When I was considering this a couple of the companies I called said it really needed to go on to perfect paint as A. any defects in the paint would show through and b. any stonechips would mean the vinyl might rip the paint off when it was removed.

Oh...and best quote I got was only a few hundred quid less than a respray!

I did see an RX7 in chrome vinyl that looked pretty impressive though.

Thats kind of what I expected with regards to the paint quality underneath, might be easier to look at resprays

There are some amazing looking cars out there, I've seen a chrome slk that does look outstanding

David Yu's 700BHP GTR "Godzilla" has a purple wrap, I think it looks fantastic. A good wrap costs about the same as a respray though.

Coopless!
