Hey all,

I've had to start using my 20VT for the commute to work, doing 160 miles a week now frown Just wondered how they hold up to high mileage?

Mine has just passed 70k, which isn't excessive I know but I see 100k looming large in the distance.

Anyone got a high mileage coup that has held up well? This will at least put my mind at rest regarding the miles...even it won't help my poor wallet laugh

cheers

There are a few owners on here with Coops well over 100k miles.

Nigel is the undisputed champion though. 246,000 miles! shocked cool

They like doing lots of miles better than sitting around rotting away, keeps things running smoothly.

Just gotta keep up with the maintenance.

Definitely use them. Far better that they are used, particularly the turbo (all that dump valve stuff needs using to stay lubricated).

I've used the 16NA for 160k miles; the 20vt is currently at 100k.

I'd see about some rust proofing (treat and underseal or something). Otherwise there's nothing really fragile on the coop so long as it's well serviced / oil regularly checked.

Apart from the aux belts, exhaust manifold, oil cooler pipes, piston rings, handbrake cables, plastic dump valve, big end bearings, coolant hose of death, expansion tank cap, thin vacuum hoses and most of the electrics that is. hehe

No no - those are just CONSEQUENCES. Read again: "so long as it's well serviced / oil regularly checked."

I would still class them as fragile parts wink

Most other cars dont have the same failure rates on them as we do.

My first 16V did much more than 200k already without a rebuild. Car was crushed couple of times by freaky owners (after me), but the engine is still perfect. Compression is like in manual )))

Mines on 122k (1995 flavour) but you wouldn't think to drive. Original paintwork too, but that died many years ago!! tongue

118k and pulling hard on the original turbo (2nd clutch fitted and 2nd set of belts coming next month). Keep up on the maintenance and they'll run and run.

128000 and engine died i looked after and maintained it well aswell for the 2 years i had it i think previous owner didnt care for her : cry just had a new bottom end with 90000 on the clock and a top head rebuild should be good for another 50k hopefully wink

137k on mine, and still running well.
*touching everything wooden in sight*

Think it's the original turbo too!
(Not got a complete service history so can't be sure, it was a heart over head purchase :D)

No major failures in 2 1/2 years though.
