I was waiting for a thread like this one to come up after our last chat Dave.... I've driven this car, and it handles very well indeed - would be well suited to sprinting etc. It's been modded and setup very well by an owner that knows these cars. £3000 is an utter steal for a car of this spec - I hope someone snaps it up before it gets broken for bits, as it is likely worth a lot in parts. What's next Dave - Indy, Caterfield?

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone As I've just been saying to Nigel and Nick (via PM), I am really really going to miss my Coupe when it goes I'd guess that my link to my Coupe is as strong as anyone's on the Forum; I'd guess I'm one of the longest serving owners (Barnacle apart ). I can honestly say I felt physically shakey having posted it for sale But its the right thing to do. Chris and Si are right ... hopefully, within a few months, a nice little 2 seater thing will be sitting in the garage instead

Just to add, if anyone wants a track coupe, don't bother going to the expense of doing it yourself, just buy this. Fantastic handling car.

Whilst I'm staggered that Dave is selling up, I know the reasons are good, so I'll add my endorsement of the car.
At last year's Curborough bash, I was unable to run my own car (still running in the new forged pistons), but I still turned up at the track for a few passenger rides.
Leighton had already let me drive his 475bhp monster, which was hugely entertaining down the straight, but frustrating on the wiggly bits because it was a bit too laggy for such a slow circuit
I also watched everyone else gradually getting to grips with the track and posting faster and faster times.
Eventually, Dave offered me a drive in his car - I think I nearly took his hand off
Within one corner, I knew I was driving something with well sorted suspension and steering. Within two corners, I knew I was driving something will very good brakes and balance. By the straight, I knew I was driving something that was hopelessly underpowered for its chassis (it was still on the stock turbo with no live mapping - maybe 250bhp?)
However, in one run, I posted the fastest time of the day (up to that point) - my time was only beaten right at the end of the day.
This is hugely telling, for two reasons:-
1) Its unusual to jump into someone else's car and feel "right" instantly - normally, you have to get used to the little idiosyncrasies that most other cars have - Dave's just felt perfect from the off
2) I wasn't actually trying that hard - just "making good progress"
Its an easy car to drive fast - hugely forgiving and totally predictable.
I can only imagine what it must be like now that it has the power to match the chassis
Anyone that's looking for a properly-modded Coupe should look no further - this has been done properly at every step of the way with absolutely no compromise.
Sadly, Dave would get more for the car in bits, but I'm sure that it will get sold pretty damn quickly without it being hacked up.
I hope so, as this is one of the top ten cars on the forum IMHO
Anyone remember the old Pirelli advert? - "power is nothing without control" - could have been written for this car

I couldn't have you turn up and, in a single drive, walk away with the fastest time of the day ... and that being set in someone else's car, as well Thanks for the kind words above

Great car from somebody who you can tell looks after his cars with no expense spared. Like myself Dave has come to the point where he needs to move on. Absolute bargain for whoever buys it. Dave and Nigel you can definately tell you are showing your age, your memories are losing it a bit Nigel set the fastest time of the morning in Dave's car with something like a 30.3 seconds IIRC, then I beat that time in the afternoon with a very a low 30. Nigel then drove Leightons car in the afternoon and commented that he thought he wouldn't have been as fast as his run in Dave's car, and he was right. Dave then beat my time as I was getting in my car to leave with a time just under 30 seconds. Might want to take note of this so you don't forget again!

I can only back up all that other people have said, we have worked on this car for more years than I care to remember. If you want an idea of how much Dave cares for this Coupe, he left it with me many years ago to fit some mods while he went away on a stag weekend, I got a call at 2am on Sunday morning to ask if was it all OK !!!! Needless to say he was very tipsy!! I have driven this at several different tracks and it is huge fun and very forgiving.
Good luck with the sale Dave.

Ha ha great drunken story. Its not going too bad so far Nigel. Its not bothering me so far, but thats probably because most of the time I have been abroad. I think it will hit home in the next few weeks and I will miss it dearly. But we all move on at some point. I need to find the thread on your new moonie, I'm guessing its all up and running. Sorry for going off topic.
