Hello hello,

I'm in my final year at Stafffordshire uni doing Automotive Technology. We have 2 huge projects this year, and for one of them we are tasked with designing a car. Yes, a whole car..

We then have to model it using CAD and *try* to get photorealistic renders. We also have to create booklets etc in the style of whatever company we are making the car for.

I'd like to make the successor to the coop. What do you reckon?
I need to speak to my project suporvisor on Monday to tell him my car ideas. Things I've just thought of off the top of my head include, Keeping the slashes down the side and the fuel cap design. Things to make it recognisable as the coop - but updated obviously.

Has anyone got any thoughts? Other possible ideas?

Im just throwing this out there really to see what sort of response I get. I could just model the coop as it is now because thats also allowed, I just thought it would be cooler to make a new car of my own design.

So if anyones got any ideas. ANYTHING at all. Even if its negative then please shout them out to me.

Thanks thanks.

P.S - I'll be making a new thread in a couple of days about my other project tongue I think only car people can help me. I'd just like to get this one sorted in my mind first of all.

Wider and slightly more edgy.

bigger wheels (18") but keep the trademark four-spoke design

Keep the circular rear lights too

Cracking idea, all the best and make sure we get regular updates. Don't forget the interior metal strip but don't try to get to technical with pop up sat nav etc I would focus on the overal design and keep it simple...

Exterior

Keep the Ferrari taillights but make them bigger - and possibly flat.

Change the headlights so that they don't feel like ass cheeks but like Keira Knightley's chest.

Keep the slashes - extend the rear ones and have them wrap around the car's rear.

Bigger wheels

Keep the fuel cap - but in a brushed metal effect

Make the car slightly bigger to give it even more road presence.

Interior

Keep the body coloured dash strip but have it go all round the interior of the car.

Tough job that, I'm thinking and saying to myself about the coops different features and dimensional balance and sayin to myself "that's perfect bow, wouldn't change that" over and over

  • Front wheels slightly more forward.
  • Rear 4 wheel drive.
  • No water/ moisture collection points!
  • Oh and topless!

Make the front and rear bumpers cool looking, not chavtastic though. Not much help ah! and keep the bonnet opening as it does now

I have access to Pro Engineer which I'm pretty good with, Alias Studio and Maya. I have never used either of those though.

Thanks Trappy. I've never seen that before, thats quite interesting. I quite like the front of that car, the grills etc.

I doubt you'll be able to accurately model your design idea in alias if you've never used it before. It's a complicated package that's takes a good while (months) to get half decent results from it.

If you attempt it and need any help, let me know thumb

Bunkspeed will be perfect for photorealistic renders.

If you'd like any help/feedback/general designing techniques, I'd be happy to go through your ideas with you. (I'm an automotive designer)

If your going to design the next coupe you need to look at fiats present range like the abath 500

also other cars like the Audi Rs TT, Peugeot rcz, Nissan gtr, BMW m3

keep with the moden look, use the old coupe design as a starting point.

Also rear wheel drive or 4x4 please and only turbos and no N/A wink

And interior dash stripe turned into fishtank so you drive about with little fishies swimming round you

Is the project for exterior styling only, or does it include the interior?

Thanks again for the replies and input its much appreciated smile

Im making a big list of things to mention to my project supervisor. Everything helps.

Gillo. I think its mainly the exterior although it doesnt actually say anywhere as to wether we have to do the interior or not.

I actually hope I dont have to to be honest. It kinda scares me lol.

That would be an interesting project!
I had drawn my vision of future coupe just for fun two years ago, though it looks aged today) But I was too lazy to make it in CAD
