If I install a small sub in the boot there is a part of me that thinks the sound will be muffled / boomy due to the enclosed nature of the boot.
What are the options to solve this?
I was thinking that perhaps removing the foam int he 3/4 panels might work and then porting the 3/4 panels.
Alternatively perhaps it would be possible to port the parcel shelf?
Is this a valid concern or realistically is porting not going to make much difference.
Cheers

Ah MrCooper, I see youre still undecided on the bass issue. In my younger years I spent loads on ICE & looking back it was just not worth it. Some might not agree with me, but thats another story.
It's worth checking out the web, loads & loads of information on there. Google is your friend. My humble avise is apart from wanting to make your ICE look "pretty" hiding the chosen bass box away wont really affect it much. Modest amounts of bass is easily achievable & really quite adequate for your average motor.
I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time

Yes, I've decided on a small sub clicky as I don't want to loose boot space and have no need for earth shattering bass - just want to prop up a slightly bright system. Then, I'm not sure whether cabin or boot is best. Neil, who seems to know what he is talking about seems to think that boot is OK. Similarly, you who have been down this route don't appear to percieve a problem. I just thought that as there is no natural port from the boot to the cabin that sound quality could suffer if the sub were not placed in the cabin. Sounds like this is not likely to be an issue.

You can hear bass through concrete walls (admittedly attenuated a bit), the panels in a car are no problem. It is also only 2-3m away.
My brother placed this same little sub in the back seat side panel of a different coupe and even being closer it sounds no better. Don't worry about the location, it makes almost no difference when we are talking about such basic equipment in what is a very sub-optimal listening environment.

So will this sub fit behind the rear 3/4 panel.
If so that could be the perfect location - out of sight, in the cabin, not taking up my boot space.
Never thought it would fit in there. Do you have any details / pics of where he fitted it?

I'm not sure. He has a Hyundai Coupe which seems to have more space there. It also places the sub very close to a speaker which is not always recommended.
I was resigned to a less good installation when I chose the cubby hole as it was not in the cabin, but we both thought mine sounded better. The bass was comparable but my speakers are supposed to be better according to the tests and they sounded better in the flesh too.
