My stereo has absolutely no reception, probably due to the blue wire dangling, unattached from the head unit, thanks to the monkeys who installed it before I bought the car

It looks pretty tight back there to be soldering it to the blue wire in the main bulk of cable, so was wondering if there are any 3rd party aerials that I could fit, maybe even a little one behind the head unit?
I know the reception wouldn't be great back there, but would like some at least, and would be nice and simple to keep it in there.

How about just wiring it to a switched live such as the ciggy lighter.

My reception is horrendous and is driving me nuts.

I do get some stations, radio 1, capital etc... but then I move off again only for Chris Moyles to dissappear behind static.

Is this just a design flaw with the ariel in the glass or is it fixible without poking holes in the bodywork?

I also thought about DAB but that needs an ariel on the glass window outside. Anyone done it? Pics??

Just by changing my head unit to a blaupunkt woodstock dab54 I improved my normal radio reception greatly. I haven't used the DAB radio yet, still waiting to install ariel, but will let you know how it goes when i get round to it - although it looks a bit of a pain.

it shouldn't ever be that bad, take out the unit and check the connection is OK at the back. then follow the cable to make sure there is no brakes in it. If it is still that bad i would suggest a new head unit.

I have a Blaupunkt DAB 54, with a powered internal aerial that sits in the corner of the windscreen (about 1.5 in square). Reception is very good indeed. On previous cars I've had DAB HUs with external aerials, but there really is no difference if an internal one is used.

Was thinking also about an external antenna but I am not so keen into making holes in the car

There was a post in Group buys regarding and internal radio amplifier. I would never add an external one as they look awful and will de-value the car.

Being stupid here, but when you say internal radio amp, would you still need to hook that up to the antenna in the heater elements, or would it work independently?

Can you remember where it would be installed in the car?

Not sure of exact details but it worked in conjunction with the rear window one and was to be located in the passenger A pillar behind the cover.

It was sourced from some place near Reading IIRC

The radio reception in both Coupes is utter pants. Mainly I tend to listen to sport on 5Live or TMS on radio 4 LW. Once I've done the essential work required on both I will invest in DAB radio, and hopefully...

a) the units will be cheaper than they are now
b) the reception will be considerably better
c) I will be able to receive PLANET ROCK yipee

I really wish that Chris Moyles would disappear up his own static.....
