I got these a few weeks back.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380272073149&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Fitted them and, at the time, the ride quality seemed better and the handling was much improved - but that was compared to a leaky front shock and trashed droplinks.

However, I don't know if it was wishful thinking at the time but the ride is really getting on my tits now. At (high) motorway speeds, undulations in the road make the car float about all over the place and on my local roads (which are quite rutted/potholey - it's a village), it feels like i'm on the bump stops most of the time - and don't get me started on speed bumps, I have to slow right down for full width humps else I get whiplash.

I did a fair bit of reading before buying and didn't really get the impression they would be like this - are they fu*ked? They are a bit rusty. The springs lower the car a fair bit, more than I would like tbh and more than I was expecting from what the ad says - I snapped off one of the 4 bolts on the sump going over one of those middle of the lane bumps the other day! - could they be the problem?

Oh and if I go REALLY slowly over a full width speed bump, the car wobbles about like jelly evil

TIA for your thoughts!

yeah but for 100 quid, thought it was worth a punt! plus my std shocks were pissing oil all over my drive so it was either ~140 for just new front shocks or...

do they sound fu*cked then? the car holds the road far better than before, it used to understeer badly and you could really feel the weight in the front but with the billies, it's much more responsive to the point where it really surprises me how hard you can push! just the ride that has me wondering. evil

Are you sure everything is tightened up correctly? Sounds like something is really off - at least comparing your 'roadholding' remarks with your 'wandering all over the place at high speed'.

Bilsteins if anything removed the floaty feeling that the standard suspension had so something isn't right.

Have you done the bounce test on them to see if they settle straight away?

If they seem ok, I'd be looking at track rod ends and wishbones, both those give you a wandering car when worn.

Well did you cut the bumpstops? If not you ARE riding on your bumpstops.
Also "floating about" sounds like you didn't do the tracking adjustment?

Track rods a fine, new drop links, new n/s wishbone.

No, didn't cut the bumpstops - didn't think I had to at the time (as the fronts were pre-assembled) but will certainly have a look and maybe remove the rear ones altogether? Haven't got round to sorting the tracking yet - trip to see johnnybravo me thinks!

Just to add more info.. when I accel hard, if I go over a pothole/rut, it feels like RWD axle tramp, judders like hell but nothing compared to how it was before I fitted the suspension and droplinks - could that be the ARB bushes? (everything is tight, little or no play)

I should clarify, the "wandering about" comment was more to do with the floaty ride at high speed over undulations - feels like it isn't damped enough but I did the push test:

Rear - comes up, goes slightly down and straight back up again.
Front - straight back up but seems to "wobble" a bit - the lateral part of the wobble looks more like the tyres than anything else.

Seemed fine, rear subframe bushes looked a bit crappy but it all felt solid.

Here's a pic of my cutting-in-situ: (be careful to not scratch/touch the piston!)

http://sfk.ibk.se/forum/attachment.php?s=e133c1fe3242fe4ef16ae1e050c80eaf&postid=116326

After this the front end was 10mm lower and a good deal softer. smile

The rears are cut as much basically.

Why only change one wishbone ? If one was worn then chances are the other will be too, they wear at the same rate.
One side having new bushes and one with worn bushes will cause all sorts of strange handling.

I was skint at the time and it needed doing to pass the mot. o/s one is fine but will be changed at some point soon.

@per cheers for that, will jack her up tomorrow and have a look! Tbh though, she is sitting rather low at the front as it is, slightly more so than the back - will take a pic tomorrow.
