Why is it like pulling teeth to get some insurers to list your modifications on the insurance schedule.

I have asked four times now for the mods to be listed and every time it does not happen.

Is there some sort of institutional problem with doing this?

May I ask who you are with? I'm interested as I had similar issues.

I have checked with my wife and she has asked.....Did you have to fill in any form when you took out the policy? As all mods should be on that from the beginning and if anything changes during the course of the policy then you should have to fill in a new form,as this is the contract between the insurance company and yourself and the basis of the insurance policy they are providing you with. Alternatively they could just confirm it in writing to you that they have noted their records.

Unfortunately, they could turn round and say that as far as they are aware the car is standard and try and use this against you in the event of a claim. So I can see why you are worried.

The policy itself ie the schedule of insurance more than likely won't show any mods as this is a genetic standard document for all policyholders.

This is on the insurance renewal documents.

Getting the mods listed is very difficult. I'm told "don't worry we have a record of it". Point is though that I'm sure they would "not be able to find it" if I had an accident, so I need one as well.

I'll nail them down over it in the end I think, but it really should not be that difficult

Having had an issue with insurance which is now resolved, I think your best bet is to shop around with mod-friendly insurance co's who can probably beat your renewal quote anyway. For years I was with one company until the issue arose, and I was surprised how easy it was to get insured with Adrian Flux even with all my mods (GT28R etc with around 325 bhp)

Only recently do insurance co's seem to bother to give you the confirmation at renewal of the info they have eg: car details and all mods, driver details and all accidents and all motoring convictions etc. From now on if I don't receive this info each year at renewal then out of principle I will go elsewhere (or at least tell them that's what I'm doing wink )

The company in question should still be able to put something in writing to you confirming all the mods disclosed.

Give my wife, Sarah, a call at Neil Willies if you need any help with getting a quotation. She has some good deals for the club and the companies they use are mod friendly.
Regards

I spoke to sarah Jase. It seems my milage is an issue (I do around 10,000 miles a year)

I might giver Sarah a ring too, my insurance is not up for renewal yet, but just to test the water, my mileage is less, but 10k a year is surely pretty average (excluding Nigel rolleyes ) but are these limited mileage collector policies or something?

Sarah can quote on everyday and classic policies for the Fiat Coupe, although the best saving are on 1500, 3000 and 5000 miles a year, a genuine classic car limited mileage policy. Each policy is looked at on its own merits. So far all policies she has quoted on have included the benefits of agreed value, salvage retention and the insurers are mod friendly.

I've ended up paying £450

Car is a Plus (so group 20 rather than 18 for a VT), unlimited milage, protected NCB, mods declared.

I'm 30 live in SE London in a rank postcode have no points and no accidents in my history.

I think it's a pretty good price.

No. The best Neil Willes could do was c. £700 or £500 if I committed to only driving £500 miles per year.

See above. They won't touch you mate. Basically only take non-modified cars. It was very difficult to persuade them to take the chip and told me straight out that if I did any other modifications I would need to find a different insurer.

I think they only accepted the chip on the basis that it was a renewal.

Fair play to you though.
