Hi i am just in the process of fitting a getrag 5 speed rwd gearbox to a 20vt engine its not a stright forward install, i am using a bmw bell housing with a conversion plate i have made from ally, you will have a probably finding one that fits without modification.

I have been thinking about making an Fiat Argenta 20VT race car (as I have a spare Argenta), but I think I would need a stronger box anyway (BMW?).. Maybe even a different rear axle.

I agree the coupe works very well in fwd just as it is. However a front(mid) engined short wheelbases car with 60 rear 40 front at 720 kg will have more traction with rwd ! I currently run a 210bhp duratec v6 which is always a pig getting through emissions and 300bhp target is going to be expensive. I think the 20vt engine is great alternative so hence the original questions. (feel a bit dumb thinking a barachetta was rwd..)

I remember reading on a different forum that someone has fitted a Fiat 131 box to a 20v engine, although there was some issue with the starter motor if I recall correctly.
