Stripped, cleaned and re-greased my door locks & handles a couple of weeks ago (along with greasing the door seals) and all good so far *touches wood*. Handbrake cables frozen though after just 18 months on the car frown

If the lock is frozen so that the key won't turn, I heat up the end of the key over the gas hob, then just put it in the lock, leave a few seconds, and the lock will unfreeze.

Yep, i have all these problems.. Now have an armoury of halfrauds deicing products and wd40... I am putting up a good fight now! Although driving earlier this week with handbrake frozen on has given the rear discs a nice orangy colour! Guess that's bad... :-(

Doors a bit stubborn this morning, but on the flip side the oil pressure in these temps in my 16vt is the best it's ever been, at 1.7bar hot idle smile

4 winters in for me, the first one I had frozen locks a couple of times and a door that opened but wouldn't close once... GT'd (Like WD40) the locks and haven't had a single problem since.

The girlfriend's (newer) Toyota on the other decided it didn't want to start this morning (flat battery) and the engine cover had frozen itself to the light clusters and wouldn't open - coop and some jump leads to the rescue!

Checked the coupe after it standing for some days; brushed the snow off - the doors plib and open, the handbrake isn't frozen on, the engine starts... quite boring, really...

Plenty of vasolene around the door frames with a cloth and wd40 in the locks every couple of days . Never had a problem in 4 years.

Oops, jinxed myself, washed the coop on Sunday evening and didn't bother taking it for a spin afterwards...now the filler cap lock and boot lock are frozen solid - oops!

After 8 years of ownership you'd think I might have avoided this but I have just broken my first plastic door handle thingy while trying to open a frozen door from the inside, quite amusing really rolleyes

Not sure if its the angle I park , the phase of the moon, the angle of the earth or what but quite often if I get caught out with no water or de icer, i find the passenger door is still ok, when the drivers side is frozen solid! I haven't lubed (oooer!) either side in ages so must be magic! lol

Funny that, so do I and it doesn't matter where I park either, perhaps the drivers side is more worn that the other, dunno...

Yeah. That's no doubt why the LHS lock on my 16 locks both sides, but the RHS lock only locks the RHS... Either lock opens both sides. Go figure...

Putting the car for several hours in heated parking lot helped me to solve this issue

1.Insert key into door by about 4 mm to just open up the flap covering the keyhole.

2.Place lips over keyhole

3.Blow!

4.Open!

I've taken to parking the drivers door about 6 inches from the wall of my house. Just enough room to squeeze in and never freezes on that side.

Have to remember not to eat/drink excessively over the next few weeks as I'll never be able to get back in to it!

Sorted that small spelling mistake out for you, Nello!
