whats the best plugs to use in the 20v turbo rockets

The NGK's are good plugs

NGK BKUR6ET for standard coupes
NGK BKUR7ET for tuned coupes

You can also consider the equivalent NGK iridium plugs if you want them to last longer, but you are unlikely to see much/any performance benfit from fitting these.

NGK Iridiums all end in EIX instead of ET IIRC.

Dont use these, i have seen what it does to a 20vt engine when the tip breaks off, not pleasant and not cheap to fix a broken engine either <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Through the grapevine, I'm sure I heard Barbz not being too keen on these.

For a while Denso iridiums were 'the rage' but a few guys have not been too happy with these, and then the NGK iridiums came into favour.

Certainly the NGK iridiums have worked faultlessly on my car, Begbie what have you heard about these?

Again, from Barbz, but he showed me the damamge it did. Scored block, ruined forged pistons, pitted head, ruined valves and a dead turbo

Does anyone know why? Could it be because it only have one electrode?
The single electrode setup is why I'm thinking of changing to NGK Iridiums, but now I've gotten soemthing to think about.

They must not be upto par to be honest and how many people use these compared to normal plugs anyway?? I bet NGK wouldnt even entertain a complaint about the design either as we know nthey would blame the fitting of them <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Single electrode plugs are far better than the tripple things fiat fit as standard so dont worry about that.

Hence my wish to change to single electrode plugs and thought I'd improve teh lifespan of them a bit by chosing Iridium ones.
But I'm not so sure I want to risk having parts flying around the combustion chambers... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

According to Barbz its the Denso ones that cause problems and break up, (bits ended up in Mavrics engine). He thinks NGK Iridium are fine, (uses them in his coupe).

Fccucking hell i don't really want to be hearing this as i've used iridium plugs for ages now and only changed from the Denso to NGK ones recently. To be honest i have had absolutely no problems with them on my last 3 Fiats.

Is the general consensus that it is only the NGK plugs that are a bit iffy or just Iridium plugs in general????

now i'll have to take me plugs out now and have a bit of an inspection.

Did you know the HKS Irridium plugs that you pay a small fortune for are actually re-branded Denso plugs !!!

Shocking isnt it especially when they charge about £20 per plug.

I have the NGK irridium plugs in mine, seem to do a good job but to be honest I've never noticed a difference between plugs, the irridiums just seem to last a little longer before they go off the boil.

Which plug do you use? BKR6EIX ?

I have NGK BKUR7ET they work well. Been in about 6k miles now with no problems. I'm sure they were on a group buy last year, was it Fergie?

Me too, ran sweet on cold mornings too.

Me too but ran funny on cold morning for the first min or two until engine was warmed inside.

16vt version of the NGK iridium will be BPR8EIX with the evo chip. If not then use 6 or 7. Just picked up a box of 4 yesterday. About 26 pounds for the lot.

If I were to use NGK BKUR7ET plugs on my Coop, would I need to fiddle around with the gap, or are they going to be correct already?

On a standard car I would source out the original Bosch plugs that were designed specifically for the 20VT rather than the Champions fiat fob you off with or the NGKs. They are bl**dy good plugs and very underrated on this forum. That might just be that no-one remembers that they were the plug originally supplied for the coupe. These are not the Bosch 'super 4s' by the way.

I have also had problems with the Denso plugs so don't use them. I think it is just that they can't take over 900c very well and are probably ok for untuned or mildly tuned cars.

No I don't belong to that camp of thinking. The only reason I use a single electrode plug is that I have to use a reduced gap otherwise I occasionally suffer from spark blow-out. The triple electode plugs do provide slightly better combustion IMHO.

I have used Bosch Super 4s when I couldn't obtain a replacement plug and they were absolutely fine in my car - ran like normal. I normally use '8' heat range plugs BTW.

It's better to give 1 big mother of a spark from a small tip instead of 3 less powerfull ones. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

16V plugs: NGK B8EGV all the way.

On those three ground electrode ones the one spark goes to the closest ground electrode until it's not the closest one then it goes to the new closest one, it's a way of getting longer wear out of cheaper softer metals iirc

I'm using Champion RC-89PYC which have a Platinum tip and have been great, better than the original fit or NGK three electrodeone ones even ie no slight misfire on cold mornings plus no build up of crap on the electrodes. Done about 20K on them so far.

I got them on Ebay cheapish 14 months ago but can't exactly how much but they're £4.40 each on sparkplugs.co.uk at the mo.
