Hi tricky,

Indeed like to play sometimes, not only with metal tho;).

Twisting the collector also give a bit more room for the fourth cilinder, with the turbineflange on the oem location.

Made some longer runner version also, but going to make some changes to it to make it a bit better.

You have started your manifold progress already?

Regards
remco

Hi,

Yes that took quite some time, alot of it is waste of time actually but that's ok.

Most of them are made with the intention to fit with the space there is.

How far are you with the burns manifold.

Regards remco

Hi Remco,

The Burns collector based manifold is all fabricated and ready for welding, I'll have to sub contract it out as i've not got the machine to stretch the tube where it's been cut on the radius to match the straight pipe it's been bent from, bit of a bxgger really being as my nice new welder (to me anyway) is sitting there more than capable of doing the weld.
It took me a while to be happy but I kept the hours coming and got it to .5 mm of my target length and 1mm equal across the four runners. The hard part was my self imposed wish to use 3 1/4" cl tube, could of done it easier with some tighter bends. My photo bucket is playing up ATM but maybe Tricky will post a picture of the runners laid flat to compare how much radius was used for each runner, a teaser I sent him, lol ;-)

Nik

Hi nik,

.5 and 1mm equal across is really really nice. So the hard imposed wish has worked out ok for you.

Hope you are willing to share some finished pics also, so i can copy them fast, lol.

Shame you cant weld it yourself, that also takes quite some work and attention in the sequence of what to weld first and so on.

Good luck with the sub contracting!

Regards

Remco

picture of the double slip collector with stubs welded on and the flange with the straight stubs welded on, these were cut back, some more than others but still there's a section off the head which follows the port angle, no cheating off the head.

tongue you'll struggle to copy, it'd mean changing the car big style, it's not a standard fitment by a long way.

Not that far off my friend, close to fitting the engine then maybe I can see what might fit in the space.

Ahh a new photo, looks very tasty Nik. No V band for you then ?
Do you think you could do one with out the double slip, the collectors so tall with it !

V-band on the collector? No need, too limiting on turbo choice, I like the versatility cool besides, it bolts to the bracket that supports it all.

Loads of room for the collector ;)The stubs are cut back a long way from the flange picture, you can see that in the stacked up pic, I just wanted to be sure the approach was straight. Double slip is the way to go, means a collector swap can allow any turbo choice, I like the versatility cool

Very nice this all is sir.

Straigh out of the head, nice large radius bends, slip joints, good material, nicely welded sofar.

By the look of the bends indeed it seems it is going to be quite an impressive and roomtaking manifold.

But really love your job sir, glad you took the time needed for your wishes.

Ok, but already nice to hear you are almost ready to fit the engine. The car wont go far without one.

Cheers smile

It's compact enough to allow the oe radiator/fan and shroud without modifying them.

Interesting, as there isn't exactly a lot of room in the first place chinny

They just look so tall from the photos I have seen, I can't immagine fitting one in the bay with pipe bends above and the like. Maybe it's been too long ???

Nik, what method did you use for crushing the pipes up to the flange, ? I'm facing a similar issue with my inlet manifold atm (totaly different materials I know), in order to keep the profile oval I'm toying with using a very highy compacted, course sand in the runner while crushing the end it in a attempt to keep the csa equal, while changing the shape.

The CSA will be smaller when changed to an oval from round, sounds weird I know but this is the what happens.
Big hammer and drift ooo clamps and wood to spread the load ooo vice ooo slip roller ooo take your pick.

Didn't say it was easy to get it all in the space, remember I said it was about as hard a thing as I've ever made, I've done a few brain straining things over the years.

Ha, what I wouldn't of done for the space found in a coupe, the integrale is way worse.

Fits the coupe with the rest of the parts left in place? When will they start the welding?

I'm not sure I follow, which parts?

I'm spending money elsewhere atm so welding can wait until I'm feeling flush.

Hi, i mean the radiator/fanhousing on std.location, evt. aircon, etc.

Yep, it fits with the standard integrale rad, fan and housing.
I'm not sure where you fit the AC on a coupe but if it's above the oil filter it would clear that also.
I think it'd go in the coupe engine bay without getting in the way of anything but the exhaust is a bit unique wink

Any time you want though I thought you were going to tackle it yourself? Have you got the collector yet?

Noooo not yet :-) I will fab it myself if I have to, it's just that now youv'e done one it should be easy second time around right ?

In all seriousness, I'm very impressed with the way you have gone about making it, one of the nicest things thats come out of the NRO factory that I've seen !

But you've not seen it?

It would be easier doing it a second time, I'd change the collector detail to allow normal exhaust route so if you want one made don't buy a collector without asking.

I've seen enough to know how it's gonna turn out, maybe I'll chat to you later about it. I've still got inlet on the brain.
