I'm sure i've read this at some point on the forum, but can't find it right now...
Will the same stainless steel exhaust sound different on a 20vt than on a 20v? I'm sure i've read somewhere that exhausts are generally a little quieter on the 20vt due to the turbo? Or maybe it's the other way round?
I ask as I have a Cybox exhaust on my 20v VIS which is very loud. I was just wondering if it would be quieter if I was to fit it to a 20vt?
Thanks,
Nick

Lots of things effect the exhaust note, Intake length, manifold, cat type, compression, and yes Turbo will usually make things a bit quieter as they change the shape of the pulses of gas, so the frequency changes. Basically the noise you hear is the sound of the exhaust pulses sending air waves to your ears. If you imagine the pulses of gasses looking like ping pong balls ... they effectively get mashed up by cats and turbos to a cloud of gas... which then gets blown out of the exhaust by the turbo.

I have a cybox exhaust on my 20vt, CAT to backbox.
It was very loud without the cat, not so much when driving normally, but on full throttle from the outside of the car, the noise was indescribable.
Now i have the CAT back in place, the exhaust is super quiet on the move, it's quite loud on full throttle as you hear the rushing air from the turbo leave the exhaust with a muffled 5 cylinder warble.

Thanks guys!
So Dan, are you happy with the Cybos on your 20vt? At the moment it's a bit loud for my liking on my VIS!
Cheers,
Nick

Yes, very happy, it's just right. Do you have a CAT fitted?

Yea I have a CAT fitted, but the exhaust is really loud! My girlfriend is forever having a go at me about it. Classic example this morning when we were parking in a multi-story car park and I set off the car alarm of the Clio opposite me. Didn't go down well!!

Well if that is the case, then mine is super quiet. Just get an almighty rush of air sound out of the exhaust if i floor it.
