hi, ok im looking to get some parts for my coupe so...ive been doing some research and i come across this boost controller

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230546199354&_trksid=p2761.l1259

I havent got a big budget by the way so this seemed reasonably priced, can anyone tell me if they have tried this controller or even suggest a different one that is roughly the same price. thanks

I've not heard of HDI, seems like a Chinese copy of the Japanese tuning companies. I'd place a wanted here and buy a decent Jap boost controller second hand.

Just watched the videos on that ebay page, doesn't look bad and they offer a "Group buy discount". Questions at the bottom sound interesting, other people already asking for a group buy discount.

I hear what you are saying about it being a copy of the Japanese ones, but as almost everything we buy these days says "made in China" it might be worth the risk.

Manufacturer's web site is here. http://www.hybrid-power.com/

It might be worth a punt at that price, it would be interesting to see what the quality is like and also what discount we could get.

More on the specific model here http://hybrid-power.com/products.php?subtypeid=233&subtypename=HDI-SBC-D-EVOLUTION

Some people have fitted this to other cars and here are their thoughts:

you can get a new gizmo ms-ibc boost controller for around £200, i have one of these on my car and the boost control is superb, no overboosting or spiking and holds the desired boost perfectly

really easy to set up, literally took 10mins to get the desired boost levels once installed, a few folk have these on there coupe's, as a relatively cheap ebc i would say its excellent value for money

Looks the similar but cheaper. Missing the boost gauge though, and the boost piping?

That's the seller I've contacted. I'm going to see how cheap he can do the SBC-D-SE (the one above). It's the same as the one Charlie was looking at but minus the boost gauge (I have one fitted anyway) and vacuum hose (about £3 from Halfords/B+Q) I reckon he may do them for £90 delivered off ebay, that's a proper bargain! They're a decent boost controller, just not popular here in the UK. Massive and well regarded in AUS/NZ.

On whim they instantly declined my offer of £75. Worth a try!

Let us know what they say Pinin. It should be fairly easy to get 10 people together for a GB.

Cheeky laugh I can't see them going for that cheap. You never know, if we get 10 or more of us they may do it for 80-odd. As soon as I get a response, you'll know about it smile

I'd be interested around the ton mark, as long as the Fleamaestro approved of it for my impending Fleamap.

That's why I want one. I want two settings - one for the headline Pub talk BHP figure after it's been mapped and on the rollers, and another for the mundane run to the shops. I don't think Flea would have seen one of these.

Really, what's wrong with the supremely complete OE control?
In fact, a boost control which keeps the boost exactly and linear is per definition not taking in enough data into account.. (which the OE Bosch does).
My 5 cents! smile

Nothing, when it works right. But it never does, usually spiking after being mapped. An aftermarket boost controller will hold boost better too.

HDI boost controller group buy now open! for those that were interested.

i think Per is referring to the boost spike, which is in fact taking the engines characteristics into account far more than a simple linear boost level.
