I had the tracking done on mine yesterday and because of the personal plate, the mechanic asked "what year is it - '55 plate?"

He was genuinely taken back when I told him it was 11 years old.

He was even more surprised when he asked how quick it was...

The traffic officer on the M23 wasn't impressed with how fast my coupe was this afternoon.....let off with a major ear bashing frown

They must be out a lot because when I got caught doing 97 my speedo was reading 63 rolleyes that was an expensive mistake and very nearly a ban.

The cops have never pulled me over in the coupe. They've pulled me many a time in my Civic Type R for some reason. Maybe it's because it was red. chinny

that didnt go down to well!

got a good old ear bashing!

but now i've moved onto a 20vt and i'm a little bit older but MUCH wiser!

am very careful where i use this cars power.....

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm glad that if I am misguided then I'm not alone!

MattB - you might be right about that!

ckings6056 - to be fair at 90 in a 40 limit it should have been an ass bashing after you were jailed for dangerous driving as opposed to an ear bashing from the police. It's your ilk that my concern stems from.

i know what your saying and hold my hands upto that. when i got my first 16vt when i was younger i drove like a complete cloud9 but have since realised that and completly changed the way i drive. like i said, i'm very careful where i use the cars power and also i stick to speed limits most of the time now as my licence is very important to me for work.

I was only saying about that experience and how it contributes to poor perception of the coop.

Nigel's monster would more than keep up for sure. But the GT is seriously quick and is accompanied by a wonderful noise, shame they've been tainted with being the choice of the footballer frown

They aren't as quick as you suggest. Granted it'll do 200mph, mainly due to the monster power, but the weight and aerodynamics seriously hamper the acceleration at 'lower speeds' (40-110mph) where a fairly extensively modified coop excels.

When I bought the Coupé they were everywhere, there were four in our Village!!! Nowadays I hardly ever see them. I think the insurance costs have kept them out of the hands of the boy racer brigade. If anything many of the current owners seem to behave better than some of those that have now moved on.

I remember attending some meets in the early days when the "Going For A Drive" element was nothing short of a road race rolleyes

Gone Audi mad!

Trappy - I'm amazed at just how slow the Conti GT is - there's no wonder I left him for dead - he's around a second slower to 100 and about the same amount slower over a quarter. If you take out my relatively slow standing start and give us both a rolling start, he wouldn't see which way I went (which he didn't wink )

Its stats like those that really make me wonder what top speed a 400+bhp Coupe will do - might find out later this year if my VMax invitation materialises

The question is not whether he bought it to race Nigel, but whether he tried to race Nigel. laugh

Of course, neither of us were racing, but we each had a well-considered comparison of the relative performance our chosen vehicles

I have to say though, I think the Conti is a gorgeous car and he was definitely having his 'comparison' in a lot more comfort and style than I was....

I think those in the know regard them as real performance bargains and fantastic motors. People who are jealous/not clued up about cars dont regard them so highly, more fool them! I still miss mine at times, special cars smile

I was returning home the other day after I have managed to squeeze in a quick polish earlier in the morning so the car looked pretty pristine. Pulled up at a junction and a 'senior' gentleman stopped in his tracks to purposely watch the car pull away. I caught him in my rear view actually stepping into the road to watch and listen to the car go off into the distance. How many other cars that are not silly-money can have that effect. thumb
