So there I was at the traffic lights today listening to some classic Queen when an OAP on a mobility scooter pulls up next to me.
He started looking at the Coop.
''That a turbo?'' he asked me.
''That's what it says on the side doesn't it?'' I replied.
''You cheeky bugger!'' he snarled. ''I'll show you what it says!''
He turned away and looked straight ahead - his face became expressionless. I started sweating. The years of looking after the Coop - letting it warm up for ten minutes at the start of each journey and letting it cool down at the end of each journey, the constant oil checking and filling up solely with V Power all came down to this one moment in time.
The race was on.
The lights turned green and off he went flying away. I was shocked at this unexpected speed but I snapped out of it and a few seconds later I too set off from the lights, the Coop growling into life. I changed into second and slammed the accelerator down, the familiar, furious whoosh kicked in and my head jerked back.
I caught up with him. We were neck and neck. He looked at me with a smile.
''You know why its called Fiat? Because you'll have to probably fix it again tomorrow if you keep this up!'' he laughed. ''Give up you fool!''
''Never!'' I yelled.
Time for a bit of third gear magic, I thought to myself. I shifted up into third and stomped on the accelerator - the Coop let out a vicious, deafening roar. I started to overtake him and soon I was about ten metres in front of him.
''That's it baby, keep going, you're doing good.'' I muttered to the Coupe.
I looked in my rear view mirror. He shook his head calmly.
All of a sudden he was a few inches from my rear. Then, next to my passenger window.
''Ha ha! Even when combined, your puny turbo and equally puny third gear are no match for my advanced 'Mobility Mode.' He pressed a red button in front of him. His mobility scooter changed into a more sleeker, more powerful looking, upgraded model. He waved at me.
His mobility scooter shot into the distance and in a few moments he was just a dot on the horizon.
Rather aptly, Queen's 'Another One Bites The Dust' started playing, signifying the end of the race and indeed the reputation of the Coupe as a powerful, fast car.
(Joke thread by the way)
